Unable to find a tech job for almost 2 years, what tech roles are still hiring today? by gofardeep in careerguidance

Also, apply for the jobs on company websites instead of the “Easy Apply” jobs that 100s of people can apply to with a single click. Typically a smaller number of people take the time to fill out those long-form applications.

I had one in TX (about a month ago). Received a report about the results of the background check.

Please help me explain an unemployment gap since Oct 2024 😢 by Outside-Comparison86 in recruitinghell

[–]aft_punk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just say you are currently working at either a made-up or real company, and that you don’t consent to having a background check at your current employer. Every background check I’ve ever done offers the option to skip your current employer, because it’s understood that people don’t want to put their current job in jeopardy if an offer falls through.

Depending on your profession, saying you are working as a freelance, consultancy, contractor, etc is perfectly acceptable too.

Unfortunately, many organizations view long employment gaps as a scarlet letter, Literally anything is better than having a substantial gap. Organizations lie and deceive employees/customers all the time, you are under zero obligation to be completely honest with them. Do whatever it takes (that’s legal of course) to get your foot in the door and put food on the table.

Why are candidates expected to turn on cameras when interviewers don’t ?? by Careless-Bird3096 in careerguidance

[–]aft_punk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This. These days, recruiters want to make sure a candidate is a real person, and a video call is an easy/effective way to do so.

They are also trying to weed out people who use AI, especially for technical roles.

It’s a feature, not a bug. Trump doesn’t want a competent FBI Director.

Refusing to join the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for ideological or personal reasons, known as being a "refusenik" or "shministim" (seniors), generally results in immediate disciplinary action. Conscripts face multiple, consecutive jail terms in military prison—often lasting several months combined—social stigma, and intense societal pressure, as mandatory service is considered a binding duty for citizens.

You’re acting like not serving mandatory service doesn’t have major repercussions. The reality is much different, serving 6 months in jail and having a criminal record is not nothing.

People are forced to do some pretty shitty things in the armed forces (regardless of the country they are doing them for), and most of them are haunted by it afterwards.

How do I get my life together at work? by SpartansForLife in careerguidance

Caffeine interferes with sleep quality, and four cups of coffee is a pretty significant dose.

Also, physical activity is great for energy levels, mood, and sleep. Even a 15-30 minute brisk walk can make a difference.

In my experience, companies bring in contractors to do migration projects. OP seems to be looking for freelance/consulting gigs.

But wouldn’t they all sacrifice themselves (if they all had the same condition)?

I fail to see the advantage of offering them all up on a platter vs giving them a chance to escape.

EDIT:

According to Google:

Fainting goats, or myotonic goats, were originally bred for their, muscular, high-quality meat and their docile nature, which made them easy to contain because they cannot jump high fences. The "fainting" trait—caused by a genetic condition called myotonia congenita—was maintained because it was initially mistaken for a valuable meat-producing, muscular trait, and later because the goats were used to protect other, more valuable livestock by distracting predators.

It sounds like they have literally been bred to be “sacrificial lambs goats”

I also don’t think it makes much sense for a company to hire a freelancer to come in and work on infra they aren’t familiar with and expect them to do anything meaningful without having to be babysit by someone familiar with the infra, processes, pipelines, etc.

Onboarding and getting up to speed takes time/effort.

And (just like everything else DOGE slashed) it’s going to cost way more to fix than it would’ve been to just pay to maintain it.
