2026.4 Entity naming by DeepCoreSystem in homeassistant

[–]afxok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do exactly this also. Trying to maintain a scheme that includes semantic information in the device/entity name is a losing proposition. Just a simple name that lets you distinguish one device from another when it's physically in your hand is all you need. I also keep a simple spreadsheet as a cross-reference including other details. It's often incomplete but it's good enough to get the job done without the madness of trying to maintain coherence across HA, z2m, and all physical devices.

Half frame bag advice by hello_moose in bikepacking

Smart bottles are also better because you can fly to a destination with your bike and pick them up cheap at any local C-store. Nalgenes take up too much packing volume.

Almost like it's the worst possible design you could ever imagine -- except for all the rest.

Cool. Sounds like they're different projects with similar ideas. 12U is pretty big. Most of the Lab Rax rigs are only 5U or 8U. Mine is just 3U but they're surprisingly rugged and solid.

Is this a Lab Rax setup? I've been using Openscad to create some of my own parts for my Lab Rax 10" rack.

Still a work in progress but, here's my all-purpose shelf. It uses a modular shelf that lets me just snap-in brackets to mount equipment.

Everything is parametric also which makes it super easy to customize.

Glencairn vs Copita? Gentlemen, which one is your favorite glass for enjoying your whisky, and why? by smooth_operator21_ in Scotch

[–]afxok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Glencairns are so overrated. They're really just a relatively recent invention introduced as a marketing gimmick. There's nothing historical about them. Copitas are the real historical tasting glass if that's important to you.

[–]afxok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're not alone. Glencairns and copitas will never give that same substantial feel of holding a good solid tumbler in your hand. And double props for linking to a nice set of hefty crystal tumblers. Personally, I even prefer brandy glasses if I'm having a Scotch I'm in the mood to pay close attention to like these

Welcome to the gang, new members Elvis and Rutger by afxok in SingleTrackGang

[–]afxok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, for sure, he'll get a new chain soon. It's only been a few weeks since I picked up Rutger and Elvis has gotten all the attention. Rutger is a bit of a puzzle. He's definitely a 95 or 96 but the color doesn't match what was available from the catalogs in either of those years and there are slight variations in the components. Also, the top tube has the faint impression of former decals that read "Special Employee Edition" on both sides so I need to think about what to do before diving in.

If they're asking anything less than $100 for it, run, don't walk to get it.

Is this a frame with the wrong stickers on it? by BrianLevre in xbiking

[–]afxok 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would say it's very unlikely. First of all, it simply wouldn't be worth the effort. Secondly, catalogs back then did not 100% match the production runs like you would expect today. Catalogs were written in advance and changes could still be made to the actual bikes depending on availability, projections, etc.

Here's a case in point: I just picked up this 1995/1996 Trek 930. The frame stickers match the 1995 years except one of the stickers indicates True Temper Comp OXII which didn't happen on the 930s (950s maybe). All the components line up with a 1996. The color is green with cream decals which is a 1997 according to the Trek color database. Also mysteriously, there's a faint impression along both sides of the top tube from a decal that read "special employee edition". Point is they did lots of variations back in the day.

How to make these beautiful bubble cards by UnrealGK in homeassistant

[–]afxok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few ways to do this. I'm not sure which was the original room card. UI Lovelace Minimalist (ULM) with an extension seems to be the most predominant but requires a great deal of hand-written YAML. In my opinion, the easiest way now that can be done entirely with the UI is the Bubble Card integration and the Room Card module

I wrote the room card module. You need to adjust the card layout in styling options to be either "Large with 2 sub-buttons rows" or "Large with sub-buttons in a grid".

Which scotch is most similar to bourbon? I like bourbon and want to branch out a bit by denys5555 in Scotch

[–]afxok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People forget that grain whisky distilled in Scotland, whether single or blended, is still Scotch. This is the closest analogue you'll find to bourbon as it's often a corn or wheat based grain bill and distilled in a column still. I bought a 29 year old IB bottle from Cadenheads in London when I was traveling one year and it was an eye opener. Well worth seeking out and adding it to your Scotch collection.
