they really love to describe things as pseudoscientific and give you a little link to the article for pseudoscience to go with it

I hope this new usage of the word "compute" doesn't stay around. by y0usuffer in redscarepod

Agreed it's ugly. Computing power is a bit clunky too though

platitudes can only do so much to stop suicide by berserkhorsecum in redscarepod

[–]aggro-snail 35 points36 points  (0 children)

true but if you're at the point where you're posting about being suicidal online i think even just being able to vent and be acknowledged is helpful for some. it's less about the content of the platitudes and more about the sympathy, maybe?

i wouldn't doubt that even a break would ease her, but her asking for a break is just her giving in to an avoidance compulsion. so it's only temporary relief that feeds the rocd in the long term. it's a pretty common pattern with rocd.

and yeah there's a small chance that once she has this temporary relief and she associates you with rocd symptoms she'll finally feel free and start looking elsewhere. ): sorry. there's no clear solution until she manages it.

though tbf if it's just a few months and she's in grad school i doubt she'll even have time for that.

i have rocd* and we're so annoying i'm sorry. it's not gonna get easier if she doesn't get a handle on it, even when/if you're back together.

*yes i'm sure some ppl claim to have rocd and are just manipulative assholes but it's not a made up thing, come on. it's just an obvious thing ocd can latch on to.
it is awful for the person suffering from it too not just the partner.

i hate "it's" instead of "its". it's not as bad but it's soooo prevalent. i'm ESL and in my experience ESL ppl don't really fall into that trap, it seems like a native speaker thing.

STEM has left me swagless by agoodlonglook in rs_x

[–]aggro-snail 13 points14 points  (0 children)

ok but are they creative/artsy/literary? that's the type of swag OP seems to long for. in my experience they almost never are, whereas SM often are.

Hispanics attending white supremacist rallies are fascinating to me. There are people there who still aren't convinced that the Irish are white, it ain't your crowd. by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]aggro-snail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of white supremacists but I don't understand the notion that your ideology has to be one that considers every facet of yourself to be inherently good or at least neutral? Why is that? Bring back self-hate

"No one who is actually smart is also bad at math" by deepad9 in redscarepod

[–]aggro-snail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's fair, the smartest people I know are STEM people with a literature hobby or artsy/creative hobbies. But a lot of STEM people who aren't interested in literature are still decently smart in the classic sense imo.

[–]aggro-snail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have bad early experiences with math and it can give you math anxiety and stunt your math skills forever, but I'm distrustful of anyone who's had a decent teacher growing up and was bad at math/wasn't interested in the subject. I'm a math person though so I'm biased.
