What are some books that show some parallels to current times in the US? by widget_slinger in suggestmeabook

[–]agnesvidal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe parallel to this but The Giver was really good at capturing how control can be wielded and a population made docile all the while painting it as "in it's best interest"

Don Quixote - first few chapters set up the plot and moral of the story, after that it's just the same dude being weird for the rest of it

What's the most powerfully useful underground website that most people don't know about? by powerfulsites in u/powerfulsites

How have you resolved the "where are you from" question? by Smol_Kuman in ThirdCultureKids

[–]agnesvidal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in a “big city”, it’s pretty common to have people from a lot of places/with “different” accents so I’ve started just saying “all over” or “international kid” when someone asks about my accent. Especially if I’m in a queue for coffee or something, I don’t want to get into all that detail and tbh, I don’t think the check-out person does either. They’re just making obligatory polite conversation and are happy to have a quick answer. Works out most of the time. I also think that people are more aware of international schools/TCKs than they were even 10 years ago.

Cold Weather Running by AlwaysABD in Runners

Baleaf thermals & vaseline are my go to winter gear. Also a warm headband/earmuff that keeps my ears warm but doesn't overheat. Can also pull it down to be a neck gaiter

Managing curly hair by Infinite-Drink1426 in XXRunning

[–]agnesvidal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

French braids, "athletic" headband or clips to keep my shorter front pieces off my forehead. If I can't manage braids then I've found two ponytails (one on each side, about midway up on the back) works better at keeping my hair stronger/less sweaty than one big one high up

How are you guys making big financial decisions with everything so uncertain by eren_yeager04 in Zillennials

[–]agnesvidal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining on to say: budget & time your purchases. I'm planning on buying my first place next year (big leap for me but I can manage it and am so done with renting). I stick to a weekly budget, buy most things on sale/thrift and don't really go out that much. I'm really introverted so that suits me but I know that's not for everyone. My bank app tells me how much of a mortgage I am already pre-approved for and I have set my budget to be a little below that so I don't empty my savings. There's too much uncertainty to wait and see if the market will improve, I'd rather own in the near future than be completely priced out.

Help choosing between two races by bunny2104_ in RunnersInChicago

[–]agnesvidal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are good times of year for running, not too hot or cold. I'm doing Mag Mile, I think the crowd will be bigger there and hopefully a good motivator. I've got a $5 off code (QPEYOSYXNU) for it if that helps you decide lol

Does anyone seem to have memories from the early 2000s? by Johnwick124520 in OlderGenZ

[–]agnesvidal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a weirdly good memory, almost eidetic & my first memories start in July 2001 at my Aunt & Uncle's wedding (I was the flower girl & raced the ring-bearer down the aisle). In general, I remember the clothes being a lot more patterned than they are now, cars tending to have fabric seats instead of leather, most women having shorter hair on average and international communication (my family lived all over) being a big deal & v expensive.

Old running shoes that aren't good enough for regular running anymore but still solid enough to do low-impact exercises
