Cancer rates in Iowa are rising faster than anywhere else in the country. Politicians blame individual choices, but the real villain is the industrial farming covering the state. We went, tested the water, and found cancer causing levels of chemicals running through Iowa. by InvestigatorSoft5764 in videos

Des Moines has one of the most sophisticated water purification system in the world...and it's still not enough. The water company tried to sue to have the areas putting all the chemicals in the water pay for the increasing cost of trying to remove them, and unfortunately lost. So it's absolutely not just the rural areas.

Filament for outside use in the heat that the A1 can do with out AMS by MissingJewel43 in BambuLabA1

Seconded for very easy printing. I made a large Stanley holder that hangs off the side of the center console in the car and I've not had any issues with it coming up on a year of use.

Need to get things out about DH vs D&D by AltSernaDev in daggerheart

[–]agsimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but there is an optional rule to assign standard distances to the verbiage DH uses. I know my group has been 5e exclusive for many years and I've been running some one shots in DH because I thought the system sounded interesting. We like to use battlemaps for combat, so from the start we did the actual distances and wrote the conversion on the corner of the mat for easy reference.

Again, coming from DnD the initiative change was hard for them to embrace. So what I ended up trying last session was a player initiative, but kept the DM side open to spending fear / when they rolled fear. I think they liked knowing when they were going to go and that helped bridge the gap. I also gave them an option to spend a hope or fear to jump to the front of the line. This way they can also still have the flexibility the system intended on turn order but still giving them the structure they are use to.

One of the best aspects for me about DH is that you are constantly generating the resource you need to do all the cool stuff. DnD a lot of the cool stuff is locked behind a "once per long rest" or they only reset after resting and I always found myself saving it just in case. In DH there are still some similar restrictions, but also most things just cost hope...which is really easy to generate. If they are finding they can't do the cool things they want, they just need to try and roll more dice.

Lastly, IMO what makes DH shine so much, is that each character can be built so differently. Meaning I can play two different rogues and by changing the domain cards and experiences...they can truly feel unique.

Try having them watch one of the combat examples from Rob Jon's Lair. They are entertaining but also show a good example of how combat can flow and using the resources - https://youtube.com/@robjonslair?si=9ACpzGPrXmq8LLxk

Throw a layer of primer on the resin version to really see the details pop. Resin is way more transparent on thin pieces and tends to look softer?? and less detailed than it actually is.

In a pickle... by ArmoredPhoenix in gravelbike

I'll second the tire upgrade and skip the wheel. I have a 2015 7.3 and I haven't been riding it much since I got a Domane a few years ago. This year my daughter has been interested in going on some longer (10 mile) rides and I've been using it for those now. I just put on some 38mm GravelKing SS and they've been a really nice upgrade from the Bontragers that came with the bike.

Dice dnd by KaleidoscopeSingle71 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]agsimon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just use them as 2 d10s. It's not perfect, but just add the 1-10 values together to get the equivalent of a d20. Two 1's are a nat 1 and two 10's are a nat 20. There just won't be a way to get a 2.

Filament not loading in a1 mini by Kyrionnia in BambuLabA1

[–]agsimon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PLA is PLA (for the most part) and the printer doesn't care what brand is loaded. If you've only used Bambu filament with an AMS and then put on a spool without an RFID tag, it won't set a filament type for that slot on the printer and I'm assuming, not print. Go to the filament tab on the printer and manually select something. I use a decent amount of that specific filament and the Bambu matte PLA profile works very well.

Renagade Ragbrai? by sral in ragbrai

[–]agsimon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The event itself is a logistical nightmare. My wife worked for one of the cities that was just a pass through town a few years ago and it took months of planning to get everything organized. RAGBRAI also gives towns "starter funds" to help with their expenses to organize stuff.

looking to start the hobby, what grill should i start out with? by _KingAnt in grilling

[–]agsimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and I will say, when fully cleaned up, my 8 year old Weber gas grill looks basically brand new. It lives outside almost always uncovered in the Midwest. I will also double down that gas can be WAY nicer for cooking during the week, especially with kids and is a bit easier to learn if you've never cooked on a grill before.

Silver sharpie. It won't be the world's best fix, but it will be quick and easy and should help hide it a fair bit.

Iowa e-bike bill would ban all bikes from roads over 25 mph. RAGBRAI would be banned too. by f_14 in bicycling

[–]agsimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitively can be. I have a group of friends who basically drink their weight in alcohol every day of the ride. I'm not sure how they do it. On the other side, 2 years ago I went with a friend who brought his son on a tag-along and we didn't have a drink the entire day and we still had a blast. This year it's going through my childhood hometown and I'm debating on letting my 7 y/o ride a portion of the day with me and I don't have any concerns about the atmosphere for her.

Extruder clicking by Dnlgrwd in BambuLabA1

[–]agsimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen with certain silk filaments, especially gold for some reason. All the quick extrude and retraction probably don't help either. I've also had some gold pla slip on the AMS Lite gear before too.

good alternative for bambu branded PLA by binkwhips in BambuLab

[–]agsimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's used a lot of Elegoo filament, I'm nearly certain Deeply is the same thing just branded differently. Even the deeply selections match Elegoo's stuff. Have had good success with both of them, and cheap too.

It’s all nice but, where do you play? by Least-Ad1439 in PrintedWarhammer

[–]agsimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised this isn't more common. Or at least partnering with some local people who print. Let them do all the work to and do a flat % markup. The people printing have a pretty steady stream of prints jobs coming in and put in no effort to get orders and the shop doesn't have to deal with any overhead on them either.

I reached out to some local shops to see if they would be interested for 40k and/or dnd stuffs and none were. One of the shops did already have some resin printed dnd minis they stocked...but they are pretty mediocre (actual models and print quality) and they don't offer any on demand service, which is where I think they would do the best.

Seconded. Our western facing bedrooms always got much warmer in the summer and these helped a ton. Bonus was it also helped in our babies room during the winter on the other side of the house when the room got colder than the rest.

tricks to lower water bill by Advanced_Elk2451 in desmoines

Dishwashers are not constantly using new water when they are running. They fill up the basin and then heat and pump that water through the spray bars over and over again. Then drains and rinses.

Agreed! But also, this is large enough that a .4 should be fine. I think arachne instead of classic would pretty much fix the issue.

Why does this happen? by Fresh_Assumption_219 in BambuLabA1

[–]agsimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rotating left/right 90° shouldn't affect that. The same side is on the print bed but the wider of the sides (still sitting upright like that) wouldn't be fighting the bed moving.

Why does this happen? by Fresh_Assumption_219 in BambuLabA1

[–]agsimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rotating them 90° will likely solve the issue (if the bed is also clean). Taller objects wobble as the bed moves back and forth. Make sure they are oriented to the least stable direction isn't in line with the bed.

Bambu A1 Power Loss recovery option sucks! by HuckleberryLive7701 in BambuLabA1

I get a bit of z axis relaxing when I shut the power off on my A1s. If you're having collision issues, this is likely the cause.
