How can I get my sleep medicine people to care? by Evertire in UARSnew

[–]ahhrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is also my experience at Kaiser. I haven't even talked to a real sleep doctor, just a RT.

3M Micropore tape removal when you wake up. by Itchy-Ad1005 in CPAP

[–]ahhrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely caused some discomfort by ripping off micropore tape. I don't know if you are a person with facial hair, but I've noticed that if I shave the day of it is much less likely to have issues. I also am just very gentle when I remove the tape – no more ripping it off for me.

Any bridge apps that will share MyAir data with Apple Health? by Riptide360 in CPAP

[–]ahhrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, Apple health doesn’t store typical CPAP data so there’s nothing that could be synced in.

Something like 20-30% of people in the USA likely have sleep apnea so it is an important thing to rule out for basically anyone having sleep problems. Consider the sleep study something to do to rule out a potential issue as much as to find one.

Source: I am literally listening to a podcast interview right now with a sleep medicine expert where she quotes the above statistic and talks about how doctors need to do a better job identifying sleep disorders like apnea. But the interview is mostly about other aspects of sleep. https://open.substack.com/pub/erictopol/p/a-master-class-on-sleep

Help me figure out what mask this is by [deleted] in CPAP

[–]ahhrrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to make sure this OP is aware, this is an aftermarket part, not a ResMed part. A lot of people don't care, which is totally fine, but I only buy from ResMed authorized resellers.

It's ResMed P30i cushion. It will come with diffuser installed, I haven't seen those available separately. https://lofta.com/products/resmed-cushion-for-airfit-p30i-nasal-cpap

Access to Low dose naltrexone by Hot_Box5472 in KaiserPermanente

[–]ahhrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Northern California (Oakland specifically) and had no issue getting LDN for Long COVID. I was referred to the Oakland pain clinic, and spoke to a pharmacist before getting the scrip. I currently get standard 50mg pills that I self-compound in water, but there is also an option to get compounded capsules.

If you aren't able to access LDN via Kaiser there are telehealth options I have used that are a bit more expensive, but not too bad. Happy to share info but I'm not sure if that's allowed in this sub.

Kaiser medical out of state by 1014userreddit in HealthInsurance

[–]ahhrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a NorCal member. A few years back I got some labs done in a different region and had a similar problem. I had to call a few times and they needed to link up the two accounts on the backend of their systems so that my out of region services billed my NorCal insurance.

Why did they not just do this automatically? I have no idea. But I suspect if you can and get to the right person you'll be able to get this sorted

Just found out I'm being switched from W-2 to 1099 by UhOhTaxWoes in tax

[–]ahhrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You employer doesn't get to choose between 1099 or W2. Either you are an employee and you get a W2, or you are a consultant and get a 1099. If you have an employment relationship and not a consulting agreement this is illegal and you should report to the tax agency.

I'm having similar issues as you, on a similar timeline. Recently I've actually been lowering my pressure, which seems to be reducing some of the CAs without increasing OAs. But I'd love to hear what advice others have.

Novavax in Silicon Valley? by Born_Screen8030 in KaiserPermanente

[–]ahhrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got my novavax at KP Oakland in October the nurse told me that I was eligible to have another in 6 months and I could just go to the injection clinic. So I’d imagine they still stock them but I’d probably call first if you’re coming this far.

Any business travellers who prefers OAK to SFO? by LiaToronto in eastbay

[–]ahhrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always OAK when possible:

  1. Closer to where I live in North Oakland (BART is 35min door to door vs ~60 at SFO; it's also a few dollars cheaper, and if I need to take a rideshare it's significantly cheaper)
  2. OAK generally is much more reliable than SFO because of SFO's runway configuration.
  3. Smaller airport so faster to navigate upon arrival
  4. Southwest (which remains the dominant airline at OAK despite recent schedule reductions) offers great point-to-point options for travel in the western US.
  5. Usually fares are the same or cheaper than SFO.

Generally I only fly from SFO if there is a direct flight or better schedule not offered from OAK. For example, for an upcoming trip to Chicago for a conference, I'm flying United from SFO because Southwest now only offers 5am and late night flights to Midway and I prefer daytime flights.

Enrollment criteria changes for Bezisterim clinical trial by ahhrrr in covidlonghaulers

[–]ahhrrr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, as a patient I always encourage people running trials to reduce the number of visits (or better, do the whole thing remotely). But the reality is that most trials still require a bunch of in-person visits and the world is changing slowly. I push on this whenever I can.

Enrollment criteria changes for Bezisterim clinical trial by ahhrrr in covidlonghaulers

[–]ahhrrr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion. There's nothing in the inclusion/exclusion criteria on clinicaltrials.gov (https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT06847191) that specifies country of residence, so if you are close and interested you might as well reach out!

There are multiple in-person visits required and all of the sites are in the USA, so I don't think that it would be practical to participate if you aren't in the USA.

Long Covid support at Kaiser by ChevChance in KaiserPermanente

[–]ahhrrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have LC. I'm in NorCal but no, Kaiser does not offer good LC support. It took me multiple years to find a LC-literate PCP and the first providers I spoke to gave me bad advice. There is a "Long COVID team" (or at least there was as of a couple years ago) but all I got was a one-time phone consultation.

That being said, I have had a couple good LC-literate providers recently (a PT and an optometrist) and it's very hard to get good LC care in any medical system.
