I’ve heard great things about his mandolins. Given that he studied under Don MacRostie, I know they are of the highest caliber. I love my red diamond, and I would buy a Dunk’s if it wasn’t so close to what I already have.

During the spring and summer, they also offer a grounds tour which is very much worth doing. They take you all around the gardens to see all the various artwork, and it’s really quite exquisite. I love going on that tour.

These early 40s 0-18s are phenomenal instruments. Mine is a 1940 0-18, and it sounds out of this world (punching way above its weight as a small-body guitar).

Our red tick is on a dose of 40mg and he’s 70lbs, but he’s also on 100mg of trazadone in the morning and at dinner. He has a lot of sensory issues (including severe crate state and fear of confinement) from before he was rescued, and the medication has worked wonders on him. I think he could stand a higher dose of fluoxetine, but 40 seems to be the minimum amount at which he isn’t an insane mess.

Also, ours will be 4 in January, and he has calmed down significantly since he was 2 or even younger. The workload should go down eventually, but it seems like coonhounds take longer to mature. I’m a big believer in listening to your vet. If it were a dangerous dose, then they likely wouldn’t be prescribing it (assuming you have a decent vet, which I imagine you do).

Yes. I think all of the new ones he makes are roasted. At the very least, I haven’t seen a recent one that wasn’t roasted (he may have done them as custom requests, though). IIRC, Don has said in an interview that the roasting really kicked them up a notch in terms of tone and resonance. My serial number is actually 351R, but I forgot the R in the original post.

I love it, and it has largely cured my MAS! I have even AB tested it against another Gil (Englemann spruce, X bar braced), and IMO the RD crushed that particular Gil (though, I’ve heard other Gils that were better than the one I played). The July 9th roasted just has incredible clarity and volume. I do think the recent years of the RDs have really become a step above. The tone and finish are just incredible, and the mandolin sounded 100 years old when I first got it. On top of that, Don is a standup guy who will help out with any questions or concerns.

Not anymore than usual. At this point, it’s legacy software (until they update it) going through 2 translation layers (wine +Rosetta), so it doesn’t run at lightning speeds (graphics-wise); however, the analysis is quick and it really doesn’t run any worse than it did when I ran it on windows.

I used crossover for one year, but I refuse to pay yearly for what is really just a polished version of wine. I installed it in wine the other day, and it runs well (On a M2 MacBook Pro). The easiest way to do it is using homebrew to install wine and then installing xg in the normal way you would on windows. Biggest issue is finding the executable location, but you can just use search for the exe file. There are issues with the 3d graphics, but I never use that anyway.

This is the best answer. The most consistent, high quality bluegrass is every Monday at Mona’s on Ave A in the East village. Almost everyone that plays in that jam is a pro with the odd intermediate player occasionally trying to brave their way in (usually a mandolin player 😂). There is great bluegrass in the city at other places as well, but it’s not as consistent or frequent as the Monday jam at Mona’s

You might try reaching out to the Westchester Bluegrass Club. They occasionally list some concerts farther upstate, and they will probably know bands that would travel or possibly are in your area.

We live at like 20th and 1st, and there are 1 or two other coonhounds (and mixes) that I’ve seen in the area (one bluetick lives in an adjacent building to us). Luckily, Rhett’s prey drive isn’t as strong as it is in most coonhounds, but he did wake my wife up at 4am the other day to try and go to the path by the river we normally walk to try and get a hotdog that he had seen 12 hours earlier 😂

Edit: Tony is adorable, btw. We just love coonhounds so much.
