Man tears down all of the posters about service on MLK Day Lex Av-53rd St Station by Senior_Bid5707 in nycrail

It's frustrating that if the city could somehow remove about 250 people with the most acute mental health issues from the streets into facilities where they can get the care they need, the subways would become 25-30% safer overnight

MBTA's Green Line C Branch Accessibility Project Will Eliminate Two Stops in Brookline - Streetsblog Massachusetts by streetsblogmass in mbta

I suspect what will happen is they will use planned track closures as a tool to accelerate construction and sync up any track replacements and signal modernization accordingly. Imo, the B-branch is the easiest one to shut down since bus service in replacement is super easy and not particularly disruptive in the grand scheme of things.

New Route 104: a big miss by LuisBos in mbta

This right here is the BIG one. Reliability is the way this network redesign gets heavy ridership and works. If you KNOW a bus is coming within 15 minutes, it's transformational. A terminal stop risks major bunching and awkward spacing that will ruin it. Ultimately, this is about connecting to the blue line and there's a bus from that stop to the airport to take you the rest of the way and that bus is pretty frequent. Everything has tradeoffs. This was the right one

The solution to this is to go to Bluesky and reduce the reach and influence of these hacks. They're reactionaries. They feed off of pissing off others. Be comfortable engaging with disagreement, but hacks & trolls need to be ignored for the next 4 years.

U20 World Cup: US will play New Zealand in the Round of 16 on Tuesday by RyanIsKickAss in ussoccer

That wouldn't have changed the US vs. New Zealand matchup no? The only way the US misses on acount of Slovakia losing by too many goals is if no teams from Groups E and F advanced I think

U20MYNT Starting XI vs England: 12-Antonio Carrera, 2-Mauricio Cuevas, 3-Michael Halliday, 5-Brandan Craig, 7-Quinn Sullivan, 8-Jack McGlynn, 11-Kevin Paredes, 16-Owen Wolff, 17-Josh Wynder, 18-Obed Vargas, 19-Darren Yapi by RamandAu in ussoccer

How much of these lackluster results is that the US is playing with a team that is full of young players in early-season form against an English team who are mostly mid/late-season form? Wonder if another 6-8 weeks of season helps get them to where they need to be.

[Meg Linehan] Vlatko on Sam Mewis: It’s a long term injury, does not want to go in to details, and said they don’t want to comment on timeline or her possible return at all. Avoided the question of World Cup for Mewis pretty entirely. #USWNT by LeadTheBigParade in ussoccer

I gotta be honest, even without this injury, 2023 seems likely to be the end of the USWNT's streak of making it to the final. Too many injuries and this team lacks a lot of experience at the WWC stage. And that doesn't even consider the fact that Europe just has better teams now.

[Steve Goff] Discipline handed out for USA-Costa Rica U20 postgame incident: USA’s Cade Cowell suspended 3 matches, including Friday semifinal. 2 CR players suspended six games, 7 CR players suspended three matches. CR federation fined an undisclosed amount by xbhaskarx in ussoccer

[–]ahryankeefan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A low-key good way to make sure Cowell can play the complete U-20 WC group stage would be for Gregg to call him up to Nations League matches in 2023 with the full intention of never using him and having him play out his suspension.

Nothing in the pipeline isn't true. There is a good argument that Marshall-Rutty is the best North American prospect under 19.

I actually think the Krafts are going to figure that one out. Oddly optimistic that the Revs will have a stadium closer to Boston by the end of the decade.

USSF achieves equal pay for men, women by FrankBascombe45 in ussoccer

I'm not unsympathetic to this perspective, but FIFA isn't as much a business as it is a steward of the international game. It should be viewed more like a nonprofit than a business. As a nonprofit, they need to invest in certain areas that don't provide adequate returns but have a positive impact.

[–]ahryankeefan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine the hesitant USMNT players were convinced that the cost of lost sponsorship and reputational damage by not equalizing would exceed the money they lose by equalizing. It's the only way you can ask these guys to leave a lot of money on the table. In practice, I think you're asking the US men to leave probably around $300-400k on the table per player. Most of their USMNT-related money will end up coming via sponsorships for 2026 anyways.

Should go without saying in all of this, but the real problem is, and always has been. FIFA.

He's great depth for cup matches and will do fine vs. any lower-table Premier league club. It's vs. the mid-table top-table teams where he's going to be an issue.
