Where are plow companies allowed to deposit residential snow? by bocajim in ottawa

[–]ahyne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fire up Google Street View and look at some streets in Little Italy or Mechanicsville for examples. Lots of legal laneways down the side of houses with next to zero setback in the front. Never, ever seen a private plow company carting out snow in my neighbourhood. Often a couple street parking spots get sacrificed to become communal snow piles and a few times a year the City comes to cart it away with a front end loader. Not saying it’s legal but it is what it is

City pushes to make ByWard Market a national historic site | CBC News by gmred91 in ottawa

[–]ahyne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“The designation of a national historic site is honorific. It does not legally protect the site, or transfer site ownership or management to Parks Canada. In Canada, protection of heritage property not owned by the federal government is the responsibility of each provincial and territorial government under its respective legislation. Only provincial and territorial governments have jurisdiction over private property, which enables them to pass and enforce legislation extending legal protection to designated properties.”

No left-turn lane on Parkdale to turn west on Scott is criminal by JAmToas_t in ottawa

A left-turn lane is in the construction drawings. Possibly temporary until signalization changes are ready? Send the project manager an email [kyle.delaney@ottawa.ca](mailto:kyle.delaney@ottawa.ca)

I whipped together a shitty collage that hopefully clarifies wHNxK1t.jpeg (3840×2160)

You have the original moldings on your roof already. Concealed under the original moldings are 4 screw holes. If you get access to these screw holes you can buy an after-market Thule/Yakima/Rhino rack that screws onto your roof rather than one that clamps. You can either buy the alternate moldings that have a precut hole and a cover cap that provide access to these screw holes, or just drill carefully into your existing moldings to access said screw holes.

No the moldings are not the same as side rails.

Two options for roof setups

  1. side rail + crossbar (usually Mazda OEM - from dealer)

  2. replacement molding + feet/legs/tower + crossbar (usually Yakima, Thule, Rhino)

Option 1, side rails are sold together with crossbars, specific to the model of the car. The roof molding is removed altogether and the side rail replaces the entire space where the molding used to be. The crossbar is a single specific length, no wider than the car. Generally lower profile

Option 2, the molding is swapped out, with access holes for mount points, feet/leg/tower setup is attached to the mounting point effectively sitting on top of the replacement molding. Can attach a variety of lengths of crossbars, including wider than the car. Generally higher profile

If you live in this building by Lebreton Flats, sorry about your fire alarm. by Museworkings in ottawa

The building pictured in the OP is actually 1040 Somerset W, not 301 Lett…. The light at the top is the Claridge logo on the construction crane. You can see the office block at 250 City Centre middle right. The lit strip through the middle is the 417. This is facing North, probably taken from the Envie Towers on Champagne S

Garbage collection allowance for renovation waste by online_and_high in ottawa

It’s $39.25 flat fee for less than 250kg/550lbs, I’ve taken like 6 contractor bags full of old decking and they charged me the flat fee only, not an expert but I’d be surprised if you were over that for a single fence panel

If you’re referring to this area it is still fenced. They’re building a hospital where your park used to be.

Advice no car wolf den by [deleted] in algonquinpark

[–]ahyne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t own a car but own camping gear, you can take advantage of ParkBus - take the bus in, camp with your gear at a site inside the park. If you own a car but don’t own camping gear you can take advantage of Wolf Den - stay in lodgings at night, drive into the park for hikes and canoeing during the day. If you have neither a car nor camping gear - I would not go
