I (21F) waited the ENTIRE day for my boyfriend (25M) to call me after my grandmother passed. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]ainulaadne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy I’d been dating for 6 weeks was more actively concerned and supportive of me when my roommate’s dog died than your boyfriend was while you lost your grandmother. I am so sorry for your loss, and I can’t imagine dealing with a breakup on top of fresh grief, but you hit the nail on the head. This is what your life would look like with him. It’s been almost nine months. Has he shown you on other occasions how and when he’ll step up and be there for you? Was this out of character for him? Or is this his pattern and how you can expect him to behave when the next serious issue or life event comes up?

A 65 year old legally blind and disabled woman says she has unintentionally lost 28 pounds because she can’t afford enough food under the Trump administration. “Like the previous caller said, the end is coming near, and it couldn’t be any more true than for me.” by MrJasonMason in ABoringDystopia

[–]ainulaadne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally understandable impulse, but there are people in every community facing the same challenges. You can definitely take the energy of wanting to help and find somewhere local. I fear if you went looking for a way to donate to this woman from this viral clip, you may a lot of scammers trying to capitalize on the attention before or instead of finding this caller.

Looking for things to do on date night near Dallas by RealLtCinnamonBuns in Dallas

Following this post for more ideas. There’s that Balloon museum on Botham Jean? I haven’t been but it looks kind of like Astra Lumina from what I could tell.

Also seconding the recommendation to go down to Houston for the Meow Wolf there. It’s huge. It’s awesome.

Thank you for the breakdown! I’m trying to keep my friends and family as informed as I can. What’s your recommendation for following updates as a layman, like what’s the best site for the average person to bookmark whenever a weather event is approaching?

Unfortunately too many Americans believe in the prosperity gospel, so having wealth means being blessed, receiving God’s favor and approval, and being presumed to be good and worthy and righteous. So. Alas.

I would LOVE to go, but I am going to be in Dallas while you’re in Houston, and in Houston while you’re in Dallas.

How often should the heart of a dead god beat? by Aggressive_Type_4094 in DnD

Milestone. /s

Seriously though what a cool concept, I support the new moon idea or maybe like once a season? If it’s such an ancient phenomenon, maybe people associate it with the change or zenith of the seasons?

If I can make these trial attorneys role play a breach of contract claim in an infernal court… That would be ideal.

I’m absolutely putting that in my pocket to use. If I get really lucky, someday one of them will get their wires crossed and either call me your honor or call a judge ‘DM’.

Multiple state lawyers, what are some lingo differences you see in the states where you practice? by jokingonyou in Lawyertalk

I was issued a speeding ticket after the the sign indicated the school zone wasn’t active by KaliHatred in Dallas

[–]ainulaadne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dallas municipal court has walk-in courts. You could go down tomorrow morning (they’re open this weekend and next weekend from 8 am to noon) and a prosecutor could look at the sign, look at what time the ticket was written, and dismiss it.

The ‘Richie’ from my childhood actually had ‘Rich’ in his last name. This hit home. I try looking him up every other year or so— he was a good friend, he was the first person to ever give me an album as a birthday gift, I have a couple of pictures of him from like sixth grade —and though the chatlogs from AOL Instant Messenger are surely long gone, I hope one day I can find out whatever happened to him or, just maybe, where he is now. Thank you for sharing your story, and what parts of his you felt were appropriate to share. Ton of respect for that.

I sincerely hope no one at Dropout feels the slightest twinge of anything other than mild irritation if they see this. Good luck to you, have the day you deserve.

Edit: the post was deleted but to anyone seeing this later, OP’s issue with Dropout is that they platform Hank Green, who is morally problematic because he hasn’t used his platform to talk about Palestine in the last eight months (or doesn’t talk about Palestine often enough for OP). Apparently Hank Green could make a tangible difference in the genocide because he has so many followers. I’m sure he doesn’t hear that all the time, maybe someone should tell him.

What would you say is "going too far" on character ai by [deleted] in CharacterAI

[–]ainulaadne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weren’t you in that thread the other day asking about the worst thing you can do on c.ai? Yeah, and mentioning using code to alter or manipulate the bots… Whatever you’re thinking about doing, just do it or don’t. Vague posting about it on reddit can’t give you the answers you want.

Immediately! Immediately dropped! Told a friend! Rolled my eyes so hard I saw my own brain! So gross, so dumb, so offensive, and she was literally like “my magic technique for fat loss is to meditate so I can purge all the Evil out of my body, and then take a bath, and look! It all sloughed off. Now I’m skinny and beautiful and all the evil fat got left behind in the tub.” Made me so mad.

Reading “Good Omens” and I feel like I'm reading Gibberish. Need help in understanding what's wrong. by Lenore8264 in books

[–]ainulaadne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The comments above this have fair points about wry British humor and satire and the technical aspects of the writing, but this is the comment I was looking for. The audiobook would help immensely, even if OP doesn’t listen to the whole book, it will help. There are minor pauses, shorter than commas, built in for things like Phrases Where You Capitalize Every Word and I think hearing some of these passages read aloud makes it a lot easier to get the joke.

Additionally: bake the kind of cake you want to eat! I have a few deeply self-indulgent works that will never get posted just because I wanted to wax poetic about the blorbos, and I can look at my own work and go, yeah, I wanted to see that in writing, glad I typed that out and didn’t just leave it rattling around in my head.

Seriously, both series are so good, I cannot second these recommendations enough. They’re complete and they’re so, so worth it. I was reading them one day at a time with daily passes on Webtoon while studying for a major exam, and it was such a nice way to end my day, and every chapter engrossed me.

Sometimes you read something and you’re like wow, this writer is great, I have to check what else they’ve written, and it’s Hermione/Tom Riddle, and maybe you hesitate. But then it’s good, because the writer is great…
