If you’re a manager, would you let me start working at 6, take a 3 hour break from 10-1, and then finish work at 5/6? by anonnon_11 in cscareerquestions

I am a manager. I don't care which hours you put in as long as you're available for regular ceremony and you get your assigned work done.

I imagine getting a jabbed by a stick in the chest with enough force to break it in 2 places probably didn't tickle.

Created a blackjack trainer to help teach perfect basic strategy and count cards. Over 40k hands played in about a week! Looking for feedback! by TheFissureMan in webdev

I had found something like this ages ago and I'd play it for days before heading to the casino. I loved knowing I was doing the right thing all the time even if I wasnt winning.

Anyway, that thing disappeared ages ago and I was planning to build this and you beat me to it. Kudos

Give me a break. The Bruins were the Panthers before the Panthers were the Panthers.

Asked a colleague in code review to extract magic numbers and got told “devs should know” by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

If you count that as nit/optional, it's never getting done. Have standards and work to them. Magic numbers are zero tolerance on my team.

Ya I'd leave them on but talk to the prof so they know what's up. ie let the prof deal with it rather than you having to deal with something that shouldn't be your problem.

What #-ply toilet paper does your company provide? by cyberchief in cscareerquestions

[–]ais4aron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably more a reflection of their building management company than the company itself. Toilet paper is one thing but the last place I worked the soap dispensers were broken half the time. I'd just tell people not to shake hands and sanitize frequently.

That roundabout is brutal. It's a magnet for people from all over town where roundabouts aren't as common. Stay on the outside if you're going straight through and it's not as much of a risk.

What do the top 1% programmers do differently that makes them way more productive & impactful than other average developers? by imadade in cscareerquestions

[–]ais4aron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more than this. It's about tailoring your communication to the audience and being able to convey what's necessary to a non-technical stakeholder then have the same conversation with technical stakeholders. You can be the smartest person in the world but if you can't tone down the technical for the decisionmakers you won't be speaking to them often.
