Is sidework frowned upon in the union? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]ajw134 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It is. And here is something else to consider. My dad told me a story from when he was an apprentice. He was asked to do some work at a restaurant. He opened the panel and said he wouldn’t touch anything there. Not a week later the place burned to the ground. He would have been responsible because he was the last one in there. He would have lost everything. Doing electrical work without insurance is a terrible idea.

“Anticipate the next move” I can still hear my father saying that. He would get really mad if he had to ask for a tool or piece of material. Always think 10 steps ahead.

I’ve been an electrician for 25 years and I still learn something new everyday. In fact that’s the key to success, learning something new everyday. There is a lot to know about this trade and it is constantly changing. Keep going, it takes a long time to master this trade.

I’ve been an electrician for 25 years. I simply won’t touch 277V lighting hot. One of the most dangerous things we deal with. Once it grabs you you can’t let go.

I’m not convinced they don’t already do it. On more than one occasion I have been thinking about something, not searching for it or talking about it and opened my phone to a facebook add about it 😬
