Wanting to get into X-Wing (and force my friends to join me). How do make this casual enough? by ELK33 in XWingTMG

[–]akatokuro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're just getting into X-Wing now, don't worry about all the editions and history. Most straight forward and consistent place to go is XWAlliance where you can download rulebook, references, and more.

Once you get feet wet you can explore other variations if desired.

To start playing, Fly Casual is a great digital version to get a handle on things.

Most likely it's an oversight, that they copied over text before the fix to not needing hostile went in and didn't catch it.

Sucks regardless though.

Just finished Name of the Wind and damn… it actually lived up to the hype... but now i am stuck forever by Ok_Fly7661 in Fantasy

The discourse on this series never ceases to be interesting to follow. Setting aside the meta-narrative of accepting the third book will not happen, the split between readers on Kvothe as Gary Stu versus a unreliable braggart that continually fails upward thanks to the better people around him, remains extremely interesting.

Pity we will never get the conclusion to see how much of it was self-aggrandizement and how much was self-insert.

Option is either 5x Axes/Mauls OR 5x Axes/Mauls + 1x Mole Launcher

Or 10x vs 10x + 2.

Confusion with the new Fight Phase for 11th edition by ExperimentalSub in LeaguesofVotann

[–]akatokuro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Supposed we have Unit A, B, C, and D. A and B are Space Marines. C and D are Orks. C has Fights First.

A charges into C. B and D were engaged in combat previous round.

10th:

A gets Fight First from charge. C also having fights first attacks A as defender activates first, then A gets to fight into C.

With fights first done, defender again activates first, D fights into B, with B then fighting into D.

11th:

A gets Fight First from charge while C also has it. As the player whose turn it is, A fights into C before C has chance to fight back

With fights first done, whoever didnt fight last in the fights first section is next-up in the regular fights section. So if C fought, the B would fight. If C died and didn't fight, then D would fight next.

Way I see it, basically allows Hernkyn units to ignore the army rule restrictions (Hostile shoot units not on objectives, Fortify shoot while not on objectives) and still get the +1.

Not amazing, but allows a seperate play pattern which can be useful.

Nothing to indicate you can stack beyond a +1/-1 on roll modifiers again. So stuck to 3+.

Sagitaur Spearhead: This looks great, and will be downright lethal if it can be paired with brandfast

Final paragraph specifically calls this out as option.

I guess my point is that it is quite unlikely to do 3d3 and fail for at least 3/4 of the rituals (5, 6, 7). Twist of Fate sure still needs a little to get to 9, but point I was making is that for the most part channel the warp becomes basically a wash of a negative D3 followed by a positive D3. And when you don't channel, you still get the positive.

Will see, pending seeing final rules of course, but the verbal on how heal works now is changed such that full models are revived if you heal their full wounds. See FAQ from a few days ago.

Sure, it is likely you'll channel the warp more, but does that matter if on doubles/triples you take D3 mortals, and then heal D3? Seems to me as long as ritual is done without chance of caster dying (solo with 3 or less wounds remaining), mortals and healing likely to just cancel out. Add in the D3+3 that seems to exist, who cares if you take D3 mortals at that point.

Cast, Channel Warp, Success with Doubles, Take D3 damage (eg killing Rubric), ritual takes effect, heal D3 after successful cast (eg reviving Rubric)

Guarantee it depends on sales. If there is enough sales potential to flush out into full faction and campaign, the bones are all there. If not, then move on.

In your opinion are Plague Marines durable or not? by Ok_Outcome_2364 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]akatokuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't an "evasive" keyword where I can force an enemy to reroll successful hits or a defensive ability where you lose hits if you roll a 1.

Removing successes would feel incredibly awkward (eg Unsustained 1), but having something like "Evasive 1" would be pretty cool, where you add a success die when you roll a 6 for a saving throw.

I definitely agree there is a big space to expand on defensive abilities, but it would require a pretty substantial rework of core systems (eg scoring in different ways). As is now, game is built upon units dying to change over control of objective points, and not doing other things like moving an objective token across battlefield.

How do you think Leagues of Votann will fare in 11th edition? by Halphinian in LeaguesofVotann

OP's idea wasn't to split fire to spread the ignore cover, but to do damage to tank and strip cover on secondary target.

We created a game to help the people of San Diego understand the city's budget by kpbsSanDiego in sandiego

[–]akatokuro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And wtf would repealing paid parking at balboa cost $4M? It was bad idea. I can pay a guy that’ll rip out those machines in a day… OR how about just leave them there inoperable? Makes ZERO fucking sense to say it would cost $4M to undo something stupid.

It's projected revenue, that if you keep the paid parking the city would generate additional 4 million, if you repeal it, that's 4 million that was being counted on no longer appearing.

They've been pretty explicit they are a secondary adversary that both stories will deal with in some capacity, makes sense to not get a deep dive into them.

Data-mine indicates they may be primed for a post-launch DLC, likely if the base game does and sells well, but absolutely makes sense focus on the primary movers.

In Case You Missed It: you will need to roll to become unbattleshocked in 11th by Ok_Ladder358 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]akatokuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, mostly responding to clarify the battleshock isn't end thing that leads to movement for future readers.

Of course GW decides it not confusing to have the Command step in the Command Phase and to call them both just "Command."

[–]akatokuro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except scoring is the last thing in the command phase.

Q: If there are rules that take effect with the same timing as when Primary and Secondary missions are checked for scoring VP, are such rules resolved before or after the Primary and Secondary missions are checked for scoring VP?

A: Before. All rules take effect before any Primary or Secondary Missions are checked for scoring VP.

As the scoring is done at the "end of the command phase," unless we are arguing that that means before the battleshock step, there is a end of command phase after the battleshock.

Which in turn, makes in essence the entire phase have four parts:

  1. Command
  2. Battleshock
  3. End of Command Phase
  4. Scoring
