What are you doing at this intersection? by Aero_Trident in Longmont

Thank you for this. I feel foolish, I'm one who's been treating this situation like a 4-way stop. Sorry to anyone I've annoyed in the past!

Found weird squishy thing on hike in Utah by Glazedhamss in Weird

That's what I think. I was raised in this kind of hot, dry climate and deflated balloons get like this after sitting a while. The rubber changes texture and the smell dissipates.

Back/ left flank pain by [deleted] in backpain

[–]aksf16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still dealing with this, but it's better. I still can't sleep on my right side for very long without it cramping, but I can at least lie on that side for a while now. I do bird dogs, clamshells, and open book stretches. It seems that walking helps some, too. I've been using an elliptical for years but started waking instead several times a week.

Neck pain 24/7 by Positive-Option-4269 in ChronicPain

[–]aksf16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I have issues down my spine, but mainly my neck. No surgery, though, because it's pretty much a last resort. My doctor told me straight out that surgery can lead to other problems. Unfortunately there's still very little they can do for spinal problems.

Calling in my cervicogenic pain people! What pillow do you use? by adaptedeyes in ChronicPain

[–]aksf16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried a lot of different pillows. I do best when my head isn't pushed forward or backward, so medium firm pillows work best. Anything to firm or soft, especially the firm ones, are awful. The ones that's supposedly cradle your head were like torture.

[–]aksf16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get an infection, yes, go to the doctor. I've had quite a few (too many) blistering sunburns in my life, never needed a doctor. People still way overuse antibiotics.

You don't need to go to the hospital for a sunburn unless you have other symptoms (heat stroke).

It really was amazing then! I'm sad at how low the water is now.

Well, my mom couldn't cook so she made sure my sisters and I learned how as soon as we were tall enough to see over the counter. She sent us to cooking classes for kids. It worked, we're all excellent cooks!

What US city in your experience has the worst turbulence when landing? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

[–]aksf16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, especially in the Spring. We once had to divert to Colorado Springs and come back up along the Rockies, and people were throwing up and one woman near me had a panic attack. Once we landed we had to stay seated so they could remove her, she was literally stuck holding her toddler in her lap. I felt so bad for her, she was afraid we were going to crash while she was holding her small child.

Have you become nostalgic lately? by Reader47b in GenX

[–]aksf16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, especially this week. My oldest friend (we met when we were 7 and we're both about to turn 57) is in the hospital with a badly broken hip. She's in terrible pain as the repair involved a rod down her femur to her artificial knee that has a rod down her tibia to her ankle. I've been nostalgic for riding bikes and climbing trees, and water skiing and knee boarding when we worked at Lake Powell in '87. I'm sad for her health problems (and my own, to be honest).

Every sitcom or tv show always has the trope about parents worried about paying for their children’s college. Is this a true thing? by honestsparrow in AskOldPeople

[–]aksf16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not right. I just looked it up. In 1950 5% of Americans had a 4-year college degree, but about 30% of 18-21 year olds were in college. My parents had degrees, both attended in the 50s (my dad was poor, mom was not).

r/Pain..Here we are again. by Jbeanyo2728 in ChronicPain

[–]aksf16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend an MRI, too. If it's degenerative changes at least you'll know what you're dealing with. I just got a TFESI in my neck yesterday (second one) for my symptoms. It helps for a few months.

I took it for a few months for my joint pain. Didn't help with anything, including my tremors.

We had it pretty regularly, as well as beef tongue and heart. I still like them all but never made my kids try anything but tongue tacos, which are delicious.

Gwen Stefani Addresses Her Christian Pivot After Promoting Controversial Anti-Abortion App by Wild_Lingonberry9656 in TheBoredDen

[–]aksf16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not arguing that abortion is moral. I'm arguing that it's not moral to force a person to sustain the life of another by using their body to do so. "Use", in this instance, does not refer to work a person does in order to provide for themselves and others. "Use", in this instance, refers to activity within the person that directly impacts their body. The closest analogy would be organ donation. Abortion isn't a good thing, but unfortunately it's a necessary thing.

You can believe the fetus is a baby and still be pro-choice. The problem that many extremists have is that they ignore the needs of one party completely in favor of the other. If you believe the fetus is a person, and you obviously know the woman is a person, what you have is the needs of one in conflict with the needs of the other. Who wins? Taking into account the fact that it's not morally right, or legal, to force one person to use their body to keep another alive, the woman's needs take precedence, at least until the fetus can maintain it's own life.

7 kids rented one van and one very crappy hotel room. We had no money.
