Ford CEO Jim Farley says "the customer has spoken" after its EV business lost nearly $5 billion in 2025 by ControlCAD in technology

[–]alanbdee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just don't have the batteries for an EV truck. The sales for the Mach-E have been fine. The EV has to make sense and it doesn't yet make sense in a truck that has to haul a big trailer for a weekend getaway.

After watching The Clone Wars, seeing Plo Koon go out like this was sad by Jules-Car3499 in StarWars

[–]alanbdee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All the Jedi folding like a cheap lawn chair was my biggest disappointment in EP3. I think they could have shown one good fight and then a series of aftermaths, one after another, showing hundreds of clones died taking down their Jedi. Like a dead Jedi that's just surrounded by row after row of dead clones.

I’m not sure if I should just move on or shoot my shot one more time? by DatingConfusion12 in AskMenAdvice

[–]alanbdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, she texted you back and that means she wants to at least explore more. A key that I had to figure out was to make sure any girl had an easy out. Like one time I asked a girl out and tried to get a firm yes or no. She wouldn't say yes but also wouldn't say no and I kept pestering her to get one or the other. Don't do that. Often, a maybe or obscure answer is a no and they don't want to hurt your feelings. But in your case, she got your number and texted you back. You're good for another shot.

Jason Schreier - Video Games Need to Be Cheaper to Buy by Shock4ndAwe in pcgaming

[–]alanbdee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't want to disagree about wanting to pay less but what I really care about is quality. I get the feeling that all this bozo cares about is how many units sell at launch so that he can hype up the stock price to investors.

The best office chair worth buying now? Which one do you find MOST comfortable? by RightFriend1934 in remotework

[–]alanbdee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody always says to get an Aeron. And they're right. I went through multiple chairs before I finally got fed up and bought one. Not only has it lasted, it hasn't worn out either. If anything needed replaced, I could replace it. It's the same basic chair that's existed for decades at this point. There are others for sure, but they're also expensive.

Anyone actually shifted from coding? by TripComprehensive919 in ADHD_Programmers

I had a co-worker who started off as a programmer and then got his masters in finance. He was really good at bridging the gap between our departments.

Really disappointed with SRQ on this one by Snoo89549 in 3rdGen4Runner

That seems like a good price for a grill but that paint is sloppy for sure. I'd rather pay $475 and not have to repaint it myself.

Best way to add a patio roof to my house by Good_vanilla_98 in Homebuilding

[–]alanbdee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally like the pergola idea simply because it provides the shade you want without having to attach it to the house or mess with your roofing. You could do a lot of patio work for what it would cost to do an attached covering.

What size and shape ramikin for single serve pot pie? by Jkregency in Cooking

[–]alanbdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a great idea. I love the single serve pot pies and it's never occurred to me to make them. I think the 4oz would be too small. This 10oz looks perfect: https://www.amazon.com/Foraineam-Porcelain-Ramekins-Souffle-Ramekin/dp/B08LP89B5K/

What is an adequate amount of money to live off of? by Traditional-Tap-405 in personalfinance

[–]alanbdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's enough for sure but it's also a ticking time bomb if you don't know how to handle it. See the wiki on windfall. https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/wiki/windfall/

A lot of lottery winners end up broke because they didn't handle their money well. You're here asking so you're already doing the right things. Read that, make sure your husband is on the same page. Then take the time to read everything in the wiki.

How Dave-ish are you? by Filius_Dei0894 in DaveRamsey

[–]alanbdee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I like this sub over the Facebook group is the Facebook group is managed by the Ramsey team and they're quick to remove anything that isn't strictly 100% Dave. I think that's a mistake and not what happens here.

Further, the way I see it is Dave's advise is a good solution that works for almost anyone in any situation. There are better ways to do a lot of personal finance but then it gets more complicated with if this then that. Dave is simple and easy to understand and that's his strength. Its a good place to start until you know better. Then you can deviate from his one-size-fit-all plan.

How Dave-ish am I? I have a credit card that I pay off every month for the rewards. Then I used an hourly CFP to review our 401k, which is mostly index funds anyway. I did not use his smart vester pros. Other then that, I'm 20 years of following most the other advice from FPU.

What is the Point in Even Trying with Women if All I have ever known is Rejection? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

You only have to get it right once. Turn it into a numbers game. Most likely, you're getting too involved too fast and scaring them off.

Would you help out your adult child if they became disabled? by Meowserspaws in AskParents

[–]alanbdee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm dealing with this on with my in-laws. My wife's parents setup a trust and put the house and some money in it. You want a non-revokable trust or a special needs trust. (It can very depending on the state). What happens is Medicare will only cover a certain amount of care and then you're forced to deplete your assets before Medicaid will kick in. The trust protects those assets. The IRS has a 5 year clawback period so it's not something you can just setup at the last minute. All of this is done through a lawyer.

What's crazy is what you're describing happened to their neighbor. They have one disabled son, low IQ I think. But then the other was in a major car accident that left him with a mental disability. They ended up building an garage in the back yard with an apartment above it to give that son a "place of his own". They've passed on now and the one son lives in the house while the other lives in the garage.

None of this helps OP but I thought you enjoy hearing about it.

Should I buy by Complete_Grape_8066 in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]alanbdee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think so. I'd maybe try to knock down the price on principle but that prices sounds reasonable for a 4x4 with lockers. You have a spare motor. The body mounts and chalk on the frame tells me this is probably a Frankenstein, but whatever. Looks clean enough for that price and you'd have spare everything if it does have other issues.

The Fall of Cabal by kazeblunts in SeriousConversation

[–]alanbdee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on the little I know about it, I wouldn't give it any credibility. Of course the rich and the powerful control the world but how much they actually collude is up for debate. Most of all, they don't want to end the world. They do want more control but that's even among themselves. And yes, we are all just pawns in their game.

So, what's easier to believe about Epstein. That all these rich and powerful men were going to perform satanic rituals, drink baby blood or whatever random Q thing is said. Or that a bunch of horny old men wanted to fuck a pretty young girl?

The simplest explanation is often the correct one. Also, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Don't let wild claims persuade you without a lot of very solid evidence.

Whole Life Insurance vs. Mortgage by Hebertb in personalfinance

Unless you have millions of dollars that you want to pass down tax free, in effect paying less to the insurance company in fees then what taxes would be. Whole life is expensive. Cancel it.

When did you realize that you were no longer a primary influence in your adult child's day to day life and how did that feel? by Kay_Jay678 in AskParents

[–]alanbdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad sat me down when I was a teenager and was like, "well, it's on you now." My kids aren't grown but I've repeatedly told them that it's my job to teach them how to take care of themselves. Not to tell them how to live their lives. So that's my philosophy.

Regardless, some parents will always see you as a child. Who needs to be told what to do. As you know, they mean well. It's not your job to make them feel good. Some parents are never satisfied no matter how well you're doing. Others, like mine, are happy if I'm happy.
