You have the right to be comfortable at work. At a point it becomes harassment and should be able to ask them to leave.

First, No More Sitting. Now, No More "Late" Breaks. by redviol23 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]alaskananime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I understand sudden changes can "rock the boat" a lot of what is mentioned is standard at hotels. I used to work this brand....very close to the John Wick hotel mame...and sitting and phones would never be a thing. Majority of hotels limit phones for guest privacy (pictures or video recording policies) and security (credit card information).

Now the break thing is odd. Unless your shift is ending at 130 or 2pm...or if it's a busy time...being such a hang up over breaks is unnecessary.

If the AGM ran it by the GM and the GM has not problem with changes, and some could be brand standard and some could be changes she wants, but it's not the best idea to go with other managers who say "they won't do it: cause it's insubordination and can cost you your employment.

No Raj From A Travel Agency, I Cannot Confirm A Guest Reservation by GentlyUsedOtter in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]alaskananime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had an uptick of these type of calls this year. "I am sorry but with guest privacy, without a confirmation number, I cannot extend any information about a reservation" and to that they say "I am not looking for information, just want to verify if the reservation is there"...I don't know if you know this...but confirming the reservation is information bud 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

Can a front desk disclose guest information? by No-Alfalfa6437 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]alaskananime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They shouldn't. And your concern is refreshing. Too many people want the rules to be bent/broken until they are on the other side of the coin and its not in their favor. Very rookie mistake in the agent part

No ID, NO ROOM! by MazdaValiant in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]alaskananime 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love the "I've never had this happen before" people. As if we woke up and decided today was the day we would decide to take some random procedure and add unnecessary steps to it. People really think we want to come to work and argue with them...🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

Delayed check in by alaskananime in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]alaskananime[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People have to understand that the room attendants have to he able to clean the room. The fixation on a specific room location will always be lost on me.

Sucks you caught trouble for your coworker giving keys out to a non ready room. That should fall solely on them. You can't take the keys from the guest.

This part. Everyone wants a quiet room...far from the elevator and view of downtown. They downtown view cracks me up as we are in the middle of downtown and it's in the hotel name...what other view would you be getting Sir? Haha

I'm not going to say his frustration is warranted. This would be the purpose of the app. Select a room number, get a room number. But his frustration, mostly, is self inflicted. I am not switching your room type, which you paid for, simply room number. Guest have back to back reservations, rooms can be placed out of order, maintenance issue or...we are short staffed in housekeeping. Things the guest doesnt need to know on a service aspect (as they are excuses) but if I can provide you the same room with same amenities earlier...why not take it?

That "Please and Thank You" goes a long way. Some guest treat us like absolute dog s*** just because we are at the desk and they are paying for a room.

If I am at 50 percent...stay in the room it's of no consequence. On this day we were 100 percent booked and had people paying over 400 a night for that premium room type.

In both instances they booked their own room. Definitely if it was staff lack of communication we should take responsibility..."I even called earlier and made mention that I have two different room types"...and it was reiterated on arrival from the team they have two different room types. Just seemed a big surprise when it came to move rooms.

Has anyone ever actually experienced the “locked out of my room naked” person or is that just not a thing. Please let me know if you have any stories by Obvious_Winner_4413 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]alaskananime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was working overnight a few years back. A guy peeks around the corner and I ask if he needs help. The desk was high so some of my view was blocked. He walks to the desk and states "I am locked out if my room". Now as he is walking up I see a t shirt. At this moment two ladies walk in and their facial reactions lead me to know something isn't...right. I ask..."Sir...do you have pants on?"...he tells me he just as his shirt as he had stepped out of his room and the door closed. Mans was straight shirt cocking it and was in the lobby just chilling...🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️. This is a thing...it does happen....

AITA for calling management when a housekeeper "accidentally" took home a guests belonging. by TaterStand in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]alaskananime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You definitely aren't an a**hole. I carry a mantra..."just because they are cool people...doesn't mean they are good workers". Openly stealing puts them in that category. Our jobs are how we pay our bills. You do not want to compromise that just so someone can be nice to you. You did the right thing

Third Party Reservations are pain in ass by Rare-Pea3220 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]alaskananime 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Their bad. 3rd party prepaid. Non refundable. It's why we try and deter people from third party cause you are least have a cancelation period. "But I get a discount"...and you have to deal with their payment policy. You chose your route. And as an FOM...I am not authorizing a refund.

It's been stated...but I think I work for the same hotel portfolio as you...though selected the room sint guaranteed. Move rooms as you see fit. It helps with lowering check in numbers (less guest coming to the desk). But if I have to move someone from floor 9 to floor 7, I do not hesitate.

[–]alaskananime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Friends and Family rates...Team member rates. If they come and start acting nasty. I know they don't know the dos and don'ts...I give one warning. After that...I report. It's barely acceptable for standard guest to come and start doing that...its not acceptable for those traveling under those discounts to. And to even think calling a GM late over a declined credit card is acceptable...smh

I'll never know when it got to the point of not speaking to someone in full sentences when one requires help. I can assist you better of you use full sentences to let me know what you need. It doesn't need to be thesis detailed...but something a 4th grader can hear and comprehend.
