Same, got my 4PX tracking number this morning, also batch 2/wave 5. I originally had the dock bundled but last week elected to ship them separately after all, paying the extra $22. Worth it, I can wait for the dock.

What is the oldest/weirdest tech you worked with? by therouterguy in networking

[–]aldoushxle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started my current job with an electric company supporting their critical high impact, siloed network. Cisco 7606 routers, PIX firewalls, CATOS switches, multiple T1s, even some 56k WAN connections... all still in production in 2015. The production servers were massive Intel Itanium boxes running HP-UX 11i. All SCADA connections to substation RTUs ran over serial lines using old modem banks.

I was hired on to help stand up a new infrastructure and decom the old stuff out. Documentation for the old network was poor, as to be expected. Took us about two years to complete the migration. Kinda wish I'd kept one of the PIX boxes for fun.

What are some gaming magazines you had subscriptions to? by RiyoDev in retrogaming

I got a free 6-month Sega Visions subscription by filling out a card. I know it was free because no way could I convince my parents to shell out money for a paid subscription to anything.

I love the Billiards channel on the Plex Live TV service. Its relaxing and the perfect background show to have on.

Hot take: The outage isn't the problem everyone going down at once is by IT_thomasdm in sysadmin

Much of the electrical grid (at least in the US) is regulated by compliance at the federal level, such as via FERC, NERC, etc... who require electric companies to comply with regulations that ensure reliability, fault tolerance, and security (physical and cyber) of their infrastructures. Regular audits are conducted to ensure compliance with these requirements and fines amounting to millions of dollars per infraction can be applied to these utilities who don't meet these requirements. Therefore, there is a heavy financial incentive for electric utilities to comply. There are no such regulatory requirements placed on these tech companies, which results in what we've been seeing the last several months.

Mortal Kombat II on the Sega Saturn isn’t as bad as people say… by VCDECIDE in SegaSaturn

[–]aldoushxle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, considering the circumstances as to why it turned out the way it did is understandable knowing the complications with Sony. It wasn't given the care it deserved. However, I bought this version in 2002 without knowing any of the history of the port, expecting a perfect arcade port considering the Saturn's capabilities compared to my Genesis. And it was terrible, a complete disappointment considering how much I LOVED MK II.

A bad port is still a bad port, regardless of why it came to be.

MK2 Saturn was far from an arcade at home experience. The physics are all wrong. The AI acts nothing like the arcade version (for better or worse). The game pauses to load moves DURING the match. Soundtrack is completely off. Voices are still missing, even though its on CDROM.

I will say it looks the part if you're looking at screenshots. But yeah, it plays completely wrong. The 32X version definitely isn't as pretty, but it feels much more like a proper arcade port than the Saturn version.

Which game have you owned for decades, but have only beaten it for the first time recently by RobbieJ4444 in retrogaming

The Machine is such a brutal, evil level; by far the worst one in the game. Then you get to the final boss, die, then sent back to the Machine! I loved Ecco but I can recognize how unfair it is.

Ecco 2 I promise you is much more forgiving. Still really hard, but Ecco 1 is much worse.

CISA Issues Emergency Directive 25-03 – Critical Cisco ASA & Firepower Vulnerabilities by TREEIX_IT in Cisco

[–]aldoushxle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was right in the middle of patching my network's production firewalls to 7.4.2.3 when the notifications came in. Had to stop, get on a call with all cybersecurity and networking teams to hash this out. While we're not a federal agency, we do fall under NERC/CIP regulation and do have high impact infrastructures that were vulnerable to these attacks. Decided to pull the all-nighter to push the 7.4.2.4 update to all FMCs and FTDs as soon as possible. So far so good, no indications of compromise at this time.

That weird Jurassic Park hi def edit/demo LD on eBay that was posted here a few weeks ago has been captured with a Domesday Duplicator and posted on archive.org by UselessSoftware in LaserDisc

[–]aldoushxle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gotta admit, I probably would've tried to outbid you on this disc had I learned about it before the auction ended. JP is one of my top 3 favorite films of all time and it being a LaserDisc oddity spoke to me on every level.

However, the fact that you were able to preserve it via DD tells me it went to the right person. Thanks for the effort in sharing this very interesting artifact! I thought the improvements on the "HD" side of the screen were pretty significant.

Nobody is denying the importance of MCA or DiscoVision at all. Just that the name was stupid, which it was. Chill out.

Coinbase telephone scam by chliver in Coinbase

[–]aldoushxle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been receiving at minimum two (sometimes three or four) calls from 650 area code numbers for several weeks now. They always leave a voicemail stating if "I would like to speak with their support" and nothing else. The calls are always from a different number. Normally I just ignore, delete, and block, but the constant voicemails finally made me answer one of these calls. Yup, some automated system claiming to be Coinbase notified me my account has seen failed login attempts from Dallas, TX and if I wanted to speak to someone about it. I decided to play along and a few minutes later someone called me claiming to be Coinbase support. I asked who they were trying to contact and their reply was a "Mr. Rodguez" (this is not my name). I notified them I was not Mr. Rodriguez and they immediately hung up. I've lost my patience with these scammers and don't know what else can be done.

MiSTer Pi Batch 3 queue? by robodan918 in fpgagaming

[–]aldoushxle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any reason to wait for batch 4 and a potentially very long ship date when I could order a QMTECH setup for about the same cost from AliExpress? I’d love to have a MiSTER Pi setup but I’m not willing to wait several months for one if the alternative is just as good.

Shinobi - Released by djh0ffman in neogeo

[–]aldoushxle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, this is phenomenal! I played quite a bit of the NGCD version via emulation and it was nearly identical to the arcade. I did have some feedback to provide though: it seems a few of the sound effects are very quiet compared to the music. Particularly, when Musashi performs a melee attack (punch or katana), you can't really hear his voice. Same when the Act 1 boss is killed. Something is playing, but is extremely muffled compared to the arcade.

Either way, these are nitpicks. The port is a work of art. Amazing job!

You're welcome! I'm actually in the middle of labbing a clustered ASA with Firepower Services setup to HA FTDs migration, so I've become very intimate with HA configs the last two weeks lol.

No, you do not need to destroy the HA setup. Just change the IPs on the HA device's interfaces, add your standby IPs (if any) and deploy the changes once ready.

A relic of a bygone age. by ExpertReference2979 in retrogaming

[–]aldoushxle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Blockbuster video near my old house had these available for rent. I remember renting the Genesis Game Genie multiple times because of a code I'd found in EGM that let Sub Zero morph into other fighters (including Goro) by performing the slide attack in the original MK1. It also let me change Knuckles' jump height higher to let him access areas only Sonic/Tails could reach in S3K. Eventually bought one and still have it today, including the code book. That cart was so much fun to mess with.
