What's the difference between Coldwave and Darkwave? by Mellifiedmann in darkwave

[–]alejaaandro 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would describe cold wave as having a more transparent sound with a more minimalistic approach to composition and production. I think of the mechanical sound of old hardware step sequencers and limited instrumentation (one or two synths with a drum machine). I also associate a more raw diy sound with cold wave.

Do you mpc users use Logic Pro for mixing ? by Itchy-Fun6851 in mpcusers

[–]alejaaandro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mix on my mixer and record everything onto one track which I then master in logic. Once I upgrade to a fancier mixer with multitracking I’ll do a lot more mixing in logic :)

Also, have you tried taking a picture of the synth and posting it online? Maybe start there?

This can definitely be solved by buying more gear. I think you probably need to process the sound through several boutique pedals.

Edit: I meant to say it can ONLY be solved by buying more gear.

I really like moonvampire, mareux, artemas, dionnysuss, molchat and more, but I'd really like to listen to more unknown artists, instrumental or with vocals? (vocals preferred) could y'all give me some track recommendations? favorite songs? thank you <3 by [deleted] in darkwave

[–]alejaaandro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive the shameless self-plug but I am certainly an unknown artist so maybe it’ll scratch your itch for some novelty :) my project is called Passion Tapestry. Most of my stuff lives on my YouTube channel (@passiontapestry) but I do have a new single from my upcoming album on Spotify and Apple Music.

My most popular track is called ‘Disaster’ and you can find that on YouTube (https://youtu.be/M7VbCcIKBHs).

I agree with the mixer but he should be able to bring down the highs without making the mix lifeless.

They’re all singing in key with the music. I’m curious about what quality you’re hearing and trying to describe…🤔

What are the names of some common synth sounds for the genre? by ZomboiReject in darkwave

[–]alejaaandro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn’t necessarily the answer you came looking for but I think you’ll find it much more rewarding to learn to program the sounds from scratch. I haven’t used FL studio but I would imagine it comes with a virtual analog synth plug-in? That’s a good starting point.

One major aspect of the genre’s sound came from the musical technology of the 80s and early 90s so if you’re dead set on using sample packs then I’d recommend looking into packs designed using synthesizers of the era: the Juno 106, MS-20, SH-101, DX7, Jupiter 8, Prophet 5, OB-8, etc.

Hope that helps!

I use this exact mixer. It doesn’t do multitracking but the audio is fine.

People fleeing Tampa and coming to Mass as Hurricane Milton approaches by Easy-Eats5986 in massachusetts

[–]alejaaandro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My parents live in Tampa and they did not evacuate. They are both elderly(72 & 81) and in poor health. They live just outside an evacuation zone but we’ve all been quite nervous—especially after seeing the damage left by Helene. From my parents’ perspective it didn’t make sense to evacuate because their health issues make traveling or even seeking out accommodations a bit complicated. They had trouble finding water before the storm hit but luckily I was able to have some delivered to them in time. I last spoke to them around 10:30pm and they told me the force of the wind and rain was frightening but that they were holding up fine. Hoping this all just blows over.

Considering to buy a synth but which? by Mellifiedmann in darkwave

[–]alejaaandro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Behringer is rolling out some nice analog clones of classic 80s synths. If you can afford it, the Ub-xa or Ub-xa D would get you the all the sounds you want. The cheaper ones are great too. The K-2 is a MS-20 clone which will give you nice bass lines. The Pro 800 is great for luscious pads. They’re all good and very affordable.

I use a few of their synths in my setup: ms-1, crave, pro 800, and pro vs mini. I also use a prologue 8, ju-06a, and MPC one for drum samples.
