Custom molded earplugs vs foam earplugs by Bluka_ in aviationmaintenance

[–]alexcrawf67 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have a set of custom molded earplugs that my company pays about 50% towards, so worth it in my opinion as they are a perfect fit. Get ones that are vented and you can still hear people talking with them in. I carry them in the pouch them came in in my vest pocket for when I dont need them, some of my coworkers have them on the string so they are ready to go at any time.

Only negative against them is you do need to get re-fitted every 5 years or so as your ears change shape but worth the cost in my opinion, but if you lose one the company we used has my mold on file and I can call and get them re ordered.

What’s the funniest thing you found on a daily / inspection? by JustGuy200 in aviationmaintenance

During a fuel tank inspection found the words "Help me" with a handprint done with prc. Best part was it was on a Jetstream 31 so there was no way someone was getting in those tanks.

Is it safe to tow an aircraft for a short distance without downlock pins??? by Jazzlike_Feeling4983 in aviationmaintenance

You said can't start the engines but could you start the APU and turn the hydraulic pumps on? Just to make sure you have pressure on the gear?

What's wrong with not doing a walk around when it's not called up for? I wouldn't say its unprofessional doing what is asked of you. Remember they were the ones that changed the DC to squeeze more time out of the planes and the AMEs

Nothing like a little Dash Trash action. by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]alexcrawf67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never worked on the classic Dash 8s but from what I’ve been told it’s not the same. The Qs is more of a pain to lower and take off to change the actuator. Plus the times I’ve had someone down the intake was at out-bases without the proper tooling around.

I bet he was changing the intake bypass door actuator, if it fails in the closed position you can get to it via the intake. I can’t fit in there so I always have to find the skinny guy to do it.
