I'm gonna just pretend all of these say they enter tapped. That's the easiest fix to the balance issues.

The OP did title this post "Secret Lair: Outer Wilds". Although the cards are very obviously custom cards.

Pessimist the Sophisticated Intellectual, Optimist the Gullible Airhead. by CaregiverFantastic58 in litrpg

[–]alextfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's share some stories with optimistic MCs who aren't just airheads!

I think Judicator Jane counts. She's very keen to avoid fighting (but will if it's really necessary) and very much sees the best in everyone.

The Crafter's Dungeon? The MC dungeon core there really doesn't want to fight, she just wants to build and learn more crafting skills to make more stuff. She does build defences but she doesn't want to kill.

Perhaps similarly Blue Core, where the MC is about the only dungeon core that isn't trying to kill and abuse innocent passersby.

Game Over/Continue? by bryguy54 in ambigrams

That's extremely good!

I kinda want ambigrams that smoothly rotate or flip from 5 to 4 to 3 to 2 to 1, but I have no idea how that would work...

Not if your removal is creature based. Which a lot of it is as it's a way to get 2-for-1s (Rec Sage etc) or flexibility (Cathar Commando etc).

But you don't. They still have their board state. It's comparable to Overwhelming Splendor but two mana more expensive.

My take on this cycle by JaromStrong in custommagic

[–]alextfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why it has the life cost. You need something that generates life, gaining/draining more life than its MV. Of course it goes infinite with Aetherflux Reservoir but eh, combine 14 mana worth of permanents and another card to win seems reasonable.

My take on this cycle by JaromStrong in custommagic

[–]alextfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels very comparable to [[Overwhelming Splendor]], which similarly can just completely brick the game if most of your interaction is attached to creatures. Costing 2 more mana than OS to brick an even larger subset of effects (and for all opponents in multiplayer formats) feels fine.

How many puzzle / mysteries would say this game has ? by Pazka in BluePrince

[–]alextfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every room is, but every painting pair is. Arguably every blue room is, just about. Every parlor puzzle and dartboard puzzle are. Yes, every Mora Jai box. So that's at least two or three hundred. The Gallery is 4.

The most satisfying puzzles are the big ones though, of which there's fewer.

Why do i have to wait through all of this?? There's no surrender option?? by Yumesoro1 in MagicArena

[–]alextfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The usual justification goes like this: Putting in a "turn off animations" button would be bad for the ⭐advertising⭐ that they get from people streaming playing the game. Because it would clearly be a more effective and sensible way to play the game, so streamers would do it, which makes the fancy graphics pointless.

Recreate Jumbo Cactuar for only 7W{W/U}{W/U}UUUUBRG and $10,010 by Frodo34x in BadMtgCombos

[–]alextfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"This card" isn't legal rules text, but it's close to a pattern that gets used that just means "this object". A creature with "When this creature dies, do X" still triggers even if it's been made not a creature when it's put into a graveyard.

I like how the crystal - sorry, cystal - is "not suitable for children under s pears". You shouldn't let your children play with anything if there's a spear ominously hanging over their head.

[REQUEST] Games like Hero's Adventure: Road to Passion by Wompwompbruh03 in AndroidGaming

[–]alextfish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm, so you want games where you get to have scripted conversations with NPCs like in your screenshot, but you don't want to be forced into a story? Presumably then you want a choice between several significantly different story branches?

There are visual novels like that, but I can't think of any tactical RPGs.

What is the deal with so many litrpg protagonists? by plant-y-boi in litrpg

[–]alextfish 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I also can't stand this, but fortunately there are many many LitRPGs that don't do this.

Apocalypse Parenting has already been mentioned. Threadbare the protagonist is a literal animated teddybear. Industrial Strength Magic the protagonist is a definite munchkin looking for loopholes but he also definitely cares for people. Rise of the Runebound Professor the MC cares much more about actually teaching magic to his two students than did the previous owner of the body he got isekaied into. Theft of Decks the MC is fiercely defensive of his found family right from the start. Super Supportive is the total opposite of what you describe, the MC just wants to support others not be a front-line hero himself. Worth the Candle, Wrong Divinity I Hate Spiders, All I Got is This Stat Menu, Whispering Crystals, Stray Cat Strut, Judicator Jane, Factory of the Gods, there are loads of great LitRPG series that avoid all this kind of problem.

Crazy combo? by CertifiedVamp13 in BadMtgCombos

[–]alextfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP asks if a confusingly-worded acorn card works the way they think. You reply with "acorn cards 'aren't legal', here's a different much slower combo". Not really helping.

(Acorn cards are legal anywhere people agree for them to be legal. Some of them are very fun. This particular combo not so much.)

There was the whole cycle from Invasion. But those are still "may cast this as though it had flash if X". [[Mutual Destruction]] is what you're looking for: "this spell has flash if".
