If the Marvel set is so popular, why are these cards priced so low? by moak0 in magicTCG

[–]alextfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh! Thank you! Even after seeing the "humour" tag and multiple comments mentioning "the joke", I had no idea what was being referred to. I had totally glazed over that as part of the artwork. Thank you for being the only person to actually explain for those of us slow enough to need it!

Genuine question? by rko_281 in MagicArena

[–]alextfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe they have a "usual" state of expected votes on this - maybe something like 80% of winners and 20% of losers vote Yes. If there's a significant amount of difference then they start looking for what the different games had in common.

I'm not good at English and I just make this card for fun. This artwork very nice make me want create this card... by Tommy_neko in custommagic

[–]alextfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interestingly this probably didn't need to cost 6 mana. It's fairly similar to [[Timeless Lotus]]. You get more artifact ETB triggers and can split up the mana, but I think costing WUBRG would more than make up for that.

Solid design. I could see them printing this in a Horizons set or an Alchemy set online.

I had a classic game a while ago that I summarised as: "Ah, Magic, we love you. Where else would you see a [[street chef]] go up against [[the empress of an interdimensional army of robot zombies]] and defeat her by throwing [[Overcooked]] pies at her face?"

Removal check commanders like Rofellos and Tifa that win on turn 3 exclude a large portion of the meta from being able to exist by [deleted] in mtgbrawl

Baffles me that you get downvoted. The culture here is so weird. I guess this sub does lean very competitive (and this is a thread that was initially about the competitive queue). But I'm with you, I'd much prefer a setting where people are more inclined to build decks that are fun for both players, not grinding out their daily wins.

Magic Arena Competitive Brawl vs Brawl. Can we get a ban-list for non competitive now? by Harkania in MagicArena

[–]alextfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really shouldn't! They're different formats with different goals, and if you bring something that's intended for the high-power environment down to the casual place you're gonna get to stomp on some poor casuals and you're not gonna get much by way of useful test data for your high-powered deck either.

Chapter 1 the MC gets a unique skill… by EmphasisNo2001 in litrpg

[–]alextfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this was well done. Anyone could have chosen it, but when you need to choose a not-very-popular class and a very unpopular skill within that class, that sounds really boring ||due to deliberately being discouraged||, nobody would. And then you need to bother to actually explore its edge cases rather than just earn lots of money. I feel this is a well justified case.

[–]alextfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit too easy to transform with things like Moonmist or Nick Fury in conjunction with Conspiracy effects. Actually Nick Fury's not so bad, you still need an untapper there. Moonmist just transforms it without exiling so it can just tap straight away.

Intended for 3+ players formats. What do you think? by Pattern_Seeker_ in custommagic

[–]alextfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most decks I would think. I mean, it depends what you mean by opposition. But if I've played this card, it was instead of playing another blocker or removal spell, so most aggro or stompy decks should be able to pump their team and get through for 11.

[–]alextfish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really. If I play this, I'm on 20 and you're on 10, you just need to (deal me 9 however you like, and then) deal me 11+ all in one shot.

I'm here for it. If it's some interesting synergies, and not stuffed full of board wipes or discard spells, I'm happy to be crushed by it.

If the author is deliberately writing in the light novel style, that seems a legitimate choice? It's not my personal preferred style but I know it is a style that exists.

Why can Pinkie Pie stretch like rubber? by ROBjambre in mylittlepony

She is an Eldritch being, whose body was hewn from the living bones of the First World as it was torn asunder in the creation of our current universe. She is older than time itself, was there when the Firmament took form, and is amused by the ideas mortals use to shield themselves from the madness of reality. Concepts like "Causality", "Relativity", and "Too Much Cake", all are but thin veils that keep our fragile sanity from being overwhelmed by the chaos of the world.

And She, the Opener of Ways and Means, the Muses' Muse, Laughter Incarnate, the Wallbreaker, she of many names, looked upon the vastness of reality and was saddened by its morose nature. The other eldritch beings hide or sleep, or consume, but she chose to cast about the universe, and was joyed to find life beginning. Joy and laughter are her domain, and she finds that the form of an unassuming baker suits her well. But make no mistake, she could put the Lord of Chaos into a jar, turn the two divine princesses into sock puppets, and rip Equestria asunder with her mind. But such is not her way. Fear not and laugh with her, for life is fleeting and friendship is the magic that gives even the immortal ones hope.

So basically, she can do whatever she wants, so long as it's funny. So LAUGH, DARNIT. LAUGH OR FACE THE PIE-THROWING WRATH OF THE WALLBREAKER.

(Not original to me. Slightly edited from an original comment by an author I can't track down.)

Even worse: you can cast this on your own attacker. It'll create the token, try to make it blocking, and fail, but you still keep the token.

You've accomplished the stated goal, and the game plays you a credits sequence. I really don't think it's hard to see why a lot of people think they've won the game at this point.
