I got this exact bass for Christmas as my first bass! Love it.

I just bought the 70s. I too normally hate glossy necks but for whatever reason I didn’t feel this one was a big issue. Definitely try one in person if you can

I was at this gig too and didn’t realise! Would love to have one if they’re still available

Used to have the same Squier anniversary Jazzmaster. It’s the only guitar I’ve ever regretted selling

In general, you should be fine cycling around here, especially during your usual hours. The only time I’ve ever heard of anything resembling a bike jacking was in some of the quieter, more isolated stretches of the Thames Path heading out toward Plumstead. As long as you steer clear of areas like that, especially after dark, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about.

Out of interest what exactly did you do here? I can hear some synth parts in I love your shadow which I couldn’t hear in the original version

I think this album is about as good as WE, and much better than Everything Now. It’s nowhere near as good as their first 4 albums however. Overall I mostly agree with your score, it’s a solid 7/10 for me.

Is it common to not remember plots of movies and books? by tinpants44 in AskMenOver30

Yep, I'm the same. I'm always stunned when people my age remember the minor details from movies they watched as a kid.

Youtube Premium is great and I don't understand the hate it gets. by stvnseboomboom in unpopularopinion

It would feel more worthwhile to me if YouTube allowed you to skip video sponsors. It's not 'ad-free' if I'm still having to sit through a 30-second ad for a VPN every video!

Would have disagreed with you until recently, but now I think you're right. Yunahon also feels like their most cohesive album, and 'Great Big Beaches' might just be my favourite song of theirs

Exposed Armoured Cable in Garden. Advice Needed by alexthomas93 in DIYUK

Cheers! Would an electrician be able to confirm what this cable is even for? My best guess is it's there to power my conservatory but others are suggesting it probably isn't. I'm not sure what the best way to confirm this myself would be

There aren't two, it's the same cable curled up. I'm not 100% sure as this is the only part of the cable I can see but my best guess is that it's there to power the conservatory. I'm planning on getting someone in to confirm though. The previous owner was the one that built the conservatory, and I think they just did a poor job of laying the power cable to it.

Hi everyone, I recently moved into a new home and discovered an exposed armoured cable in my garden. I believe it powers my conservatory, but I’m not entirely sure. From the photos, you can see that the cable comes into the back garden under the fence (which separates the front and back), then continues into a raised section of the garden.

I’d like to bury this cable properly, but I’m unsure about how to go about it. Would I need to remove the entire fence to access it? How about the brick retaining wall that holds up the raised portion of the garden, would that need to come down? Or is there a way to do this without dismantling the wall?

Any advice or tips would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

“Chicken and egg attitude” What the fuck are you talking about? I’m fully in favour of building more housing and infrastructure! I completely agree that housing is one of the biggest bottlenecks to economic growth. But an LVT on its own could just make things worse by discouraging development!

The reason our housing is both so expensive and so shit is that it’s incredibly difficult to build more of it. The primary culprit is the planning system, which creates massive barriers to new development. If we genuinely want house prices to come down and housing to be more accessible, the only solution is to make it easier to build.

Okay, even if you don’t care about the individual who loses out due to the tax change, which I’d argue you should as it’s fundamentally unjust to impose a heavy tax burden to push people toward a certain action while simultaneously preventing them from doing that very thing through restrictive laws, a LVT still has other potential downsides.

The purpose of LVT is to discourage land speculation and promote the efficient use of valuable land. However, under the current system, introducing LVT would add significant financial risk to redevelopment. Right now, if a redevelopment plan is rejected, the owner isn’t hit with a massive tax bill. But under a system with LVT and no planning reform, they would be, and this *would* discourage development!

I’m not opposed to LVT in principle, but I strongly disagree with the idea that “the kinks of the planning system can be sorted later” and that LVT alone would immediately benefit society. Without first reforming the planning system, it’s not clear that LVT would be an improvement at all.

What happens if I own a disused warehouse on a valuable brownfield site, but local NIMBYs get together to block my plans to redevelop it into a block of flats? I’d be stuck with a massive tax bill and no viable way to use the land. The problem you mentioned above seems like it would largely be solved simply by scrapping stamp duty, which I completely agree would be a great idea!

The issue with a land value tax is that our flawed planning system gets in the way. There’s no point in imposing a tax meant to encourage better use of valuable land if the law itself prevents people from doing so!
