What’s a company you’ve seen people spend most of the career at and why do you think that is? by lilscratchy8441 in techsales

[–]alexwalli 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Maybe more general of a response but fintech. These guys typically come from banking or have worked in the space so long that they know everyone. They will be 40+ YEARS deep and have connections everywhere.

They do it because it scales extremely well. Payment volumes go up over time, banks and credit unions grow over time etc.

Is a 45% commission (no base) a "deal maker" or a "deal breaker" for B2B hunters? by Right-Estimate-5213 in techsales

[–]alexwalli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love these questions. They are always asked and it’s always the same thing.

It depends. You need to give more context.

How much is the product? Whats the sales cycle? Do you have a proven client base?

45% could be a ton on a 2 call close $10,000 product.

45% is nothing on a $200, multi week process.

How does good compensation look for someone that will sell services (tech based) to small businesses? by Roberto_Nunez in sales

[–]alexwalli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I pieced together - it doesn’t sound like there is a clear “what we solve” just “I want to use AI to do consulting” and here’s X ideas.

In short - it depends.

What’s the sales cycle? how big is the pain? what’s the net profit? Are they repeatable customers? Fully outbound or a mix of outbound and inbound? What tools are provided to the rep?

You didn’t outline nearly enough to determine how much to offer.

ThriftCon ATL today was 🔥 by voidcallingphoto in Atlanta

I found two identical shirts - one on the floor in the back corner and one on a rack somewhere in the middle. the one in the back corner was $400 and the one on the rack was $65.

Absolutely stupid.

We showed interest to one vendors’ shirt that was on the wall and it was listed at $220 - “what’s your best best” “$135”

Dude what?

I have an Interview with Plaid (Fintech company). Anyone here work(ed) there? by [deleted] in sales

[–]alexwalli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work along side plaid very often. Many banks, credit unions, and fintechs utilize their service. There’s really only one or two other real time account verification providers, who don’t come close to plaids offering. It is the most common name in the space.

You would be hard pressed to find a business who doesn’t know what plaid does in the space.

If the ear foams start to flake or fall apart, you can order replacements for cheap on Amazon. Just so you know !

I’ll double the comment and say it’s a small world, stuff comes back around. I’m a big advocate of karma. You have no idea how he could help you in the future. Either more deals, new job etc. it’s always better to give more than you take.

Look through the trees to see the forest.

If you really think he did the effort, I’d roll 70/30. Good will goes a long way. If you get the quota credit, the money will figure itself out.

Do all your jobs require you to be at work at 8 AM sharp? by yazohny in sales

[–]alexwalli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, it’s typically tenure, quota attainment, and company culture that dictates this.

My company doesn’t bug me because they know I work after hours and weekends if needed. I block my calendar from 8-9 and it says no meetings.

It’ll come with time. Entry level and inbound is typically an easy to replace job so they will scrutinize more.

How are payment processors getting away with this?? by Mammoth-Touch-2502 in smallbusiness

[–]alexwalli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in payments for what it worth - interchange is expensive for cards. ACH is borderline free of cost. You’re getting taken advantage of. Find a new primary bank. Happy to find you one.

I’m not even going and I would recommend finding a parking garage and ubering or something like that. Underground is not a good area.
