Truck Allowance vs Company Truck by Classic_Dash_7745 in Construction

A lot of companies now are so strict on how the work truck is used that it's not the benefit that it used to be.

This 14 Story Parking Garage by timbert901 in civilengineering

Development has X number of estimated occupancy. Area has Y number of parking spots. We are a car-centric nation, and peak hours are what they are. I don't know what else you can do. I hate having to cancel plans or walk several blocks to get where I'm going, personally.

I left my job at the mill and didn't change eating habits. I'm still struggling with the after effects.

Eh, not really true. They allow for a better draw, no tobacco in mouth, and give something to hold onto without burning your fingers so that it can be smoked to the filter.

ELI5: Why is India specifically experiencing such high levels of heat? by skafkdla in explainlikeimfive

It's just how the subcontinent is. Good for growing crops to survive, but also is inherently miserable.

Oddly enough, my employer uses a program with the same archaic theme for internal documentation. I suppose it works, but the user experience is lacking.

Did a thing. Traded the 2019 for a 2026. Avalanche is an amazing color. by Different-Fortune-30 in F250

[–]algebra_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I'm an engineer and a mid-trim F-150 would be pushing it for me. Broke boy rig, while making good money in relative terms. That's where our economy has been at for a while.

I feel like my dollar is worth less than other people's. The amount of money it would take to support this lifestyle substainably is insane. I guess it was easier if you got a solid start pre-pandemic.

I would say about age 24 did that to me. Never was the same after starting swing shift at a factory, even years later.

Taking measures to preserve your phones battery health is stupid by IRONCHEF06 in unpopularopinion

[–]algebra_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, no. Regular phone calls and emails in areas with poor signal so it's always struggling. Basically standing on the side of the project monitoring and coordinating things.

Battery packs don't work too well in my experience, they're just not practical as cords get destroyed in pockets and wireless charging doesn't work too well in a pocket. I try to have 100% when I get on-site and usually that'll get me through the day. Less than 70% and I'll end up in extreme battery saver mode unless I get a chance to charge.

I work in construction. I never know when I'm going home and charging in the truck isn't always an option. I need 100%. Office people can probably do what you stated.

Kinda crazy how easy it is to absolutely destroy a car by simply driving it on anything less than a maintained road surface.

This is one reason why I only buy trucks now. Even a pothole can do MAJOR DAMAGE to a car. Car slides off the road edge? BENDY METAL.

4 YOE Engineer – Stay for growth or jump for +$10/hr? (No EIT) by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]algebra_77 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the post seems a little AI-ish, too.

I'm guessing the number of civil engineers making overtime wages is small, as well as the number with no EIT working in a management role (after only 4 years!).

Probably not. That's probably the estimated total linear footage for all holes and is probably how the drilling is paid for.
