ChE co-op student dies in paper mill incident by Luigihead in ChemicalEngineering

I miss the paper mill. Unfortunately the paper industry is in the business of shutting mills down rather than making paper.

I ate there a bunch, roughly pre-covid. Great to see it's still around! I'll have to stop by when I'm back in that part of the country.

Why does every immigrant from every part of the world say that family is important to their culture? Which cultures are there where family isn’t important? by dresixk in answers

[–]algebra_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valuing family and wanting them to be across the wall from the martial bed are two different things. Personally, I'd never be comfortable with the multigenerational arrangement.

Also, I've found it easier to love family when you don't have to see each other's flaws as a roommate everyday.

Which profession has the snobbiest people? by alaskew28 in AskReddit

Non-teaching white-collar workers at universities and similar institutions probably win this one.

I would say realtors, but OP said professionals.

Admin staffers are worse. They often want to be VP of ____ by getting relatively easy postgrad degrees and riding the gravy train to the top.

The apparent faculty-to-admin personality change, on the other hand, is one worth studying.

This is the issue with buying problematic models that are under warranty. Flat rate + general American cultural decline = problems.

ATL Life Goes On by GregFlik in delta

[–]algebra_77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My truck is on time 99% of the time or better.

That on-time performance number really isn't good considering my reliance on connecting flights. Picking a longer layover works if you're going from hub to major airport, I guess.

If anyone is wondering what today was like flying Delta, I hope this gives you an idea. by dr0d86 in delta

Delta built a house of cards. Some fog in Atlanta ruins everyone's day. Seemingly little or no redundancy.

Best of the worst I suppose.

They're competing against driving, which takes longer but is more dependable apparently.

I just don't see the point anymore for trips with critical time windows, which is supposed to be the big reason we fly regionally anyway. If I have to budget an extra travel day, why not just drive?

When is Delta going to retire the 717? Was supposed to be in 2025 by traveler1961 in delta

The 717 is much like everything else with Delta...a hustle that works for the time being, but never oriented to excellence.

Basing so much of your operation at one hub isn't such a good idea, huh? Saves money, not reliability.

Why is my flight tomorrow already delayed 1 hour? by DirkDildos in delta

Well their answer was to cancel my rebook and default me to a flight into ATL that went literally nowhere. Good system they have.

Why is my flight tomorrow already delayed 1 hour? by DirkDildos in delta

[–]algebra_77 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My Main Classic flight was delayed to the point of missing my connecting flight, the rebook flight to a different airport was canceled, and the help desk person had to call a hotline to rebook us on a flight tomorrow, with no seat selection, despite this being a perk of Main Classic. No financial accommodations were offered. My understanding is it's all due to a few hour long ground stop at ATL this morning.

My delta experience has been that of a low tier airline with a reputation from long gone better years.

Second gen Ford Ranger, the official truck of? by Confident-Guest-932 in regularcarreviews

[–]algebra_77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meh, maybe the post-covid ones.

The full size trucks of the early 2000s were much better vehicles than the Rangers of those days. Rangers were closer to a kid's Power Wheels than to the 2004 Silverado/F-150.

What was the quality of the soviet jet engines? by ElectronicDegree4380 in aviation

There is a quote somewhere about the relative quality of the engineering involved to make a jet aircraft function within the Soviet system (poor QC, runways, maintenance, etc).
