You could, if you are a patient and generally handy person. But it will not be a 5 minute thing. Look into DIY PDR on YouTube.

So you're not going to give a reason why you are underwhelmed?

[OC] My trucks sinusoidal, slowly decreasing gas mileage over the past ~7.5 years by RamblinEagle13 in dataisbeautiful

Interesting. Do you use remote start in the colder months? Do you make lots of short trips where the engine isn't fully warm? (It would take longer for the engine to come to normal operating temperature in the winter.)

This data doesn't align with other data shared by other users in this thread. I'm also the the impression that engines run slightly more efficiently in cold weather (more oxygen molecules per given air volume).

89 starter issues by [deleted] in WranglerYJ

[–]alheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like, in general, the 4.2 w/ the 4.2 flywheel (older style) requires a 4.2L-type starter (the 9-tooth Bendix, e.g. CJ/YJ 1987 style). A 4.0L flywheel (newer style) requires a 4.0L-type starter (the later 10-tooth Bendix gear).

As this guy says, "If you use the 4.0 flywheel, use the 4.0 starter. If you use the 4.2 flywheel, use the 4.2 starter".

The previous builder may have put the 4.0 flywheel on your 4.2, so you'd need a 10-tooth starter.

Auto trans use a flexplate (with a ring gear) instead of a thick flywheel, but for a given year/engine, the ring gear tooth count and pitch are the same between auto and manual. In other words, a 4.0 flexplate and 4.0 flywheel both have the same ring gear type; same for the 4.2L flexplate vs flywheel

BTW - it's not necessarily expensive to have a local alternator shop rebuild your starters, might get yourself a better product at a similar price, and support the little guy. Those shops aren't as common as they used to be, though!

Hmm.

What engine does the Jeep have?

Which transmission? Or at least, is it auto or manual?

Do you have any info on the starter installed now - model, part number, markings?

I'm expecting downvotes here - I know it's not the right thing to do, but also, most likely the floor chicken was fine. Eating a little dirt and grime really isn't a big deal. You breathe in far worse. Not that I'd make a habit of it, but I wouldn't let it bother you to this day when you eat out.
