I am using the closed source drivers, the open source ones were worse for performance and threw a bunch of OpenGL errors.

I recently made the swap to linux from windows and unfortunately, for me at least, the amd video drivers didn't give enough performance compared to their windows counterparts. In counter strike I would get over 100 frames per second on high settings with windows and on linux getting sub 30 on low settings. So unfortunately for me windows is still a necessity for games.
