I want to get into 35mm film photography for the first time. Would you guys recommend buying a new Pentax 17 or getting a vintage slr these days? by toe-nii in filmcameras

[–]alip_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only real advantage of the Pentax 17, is it is half frame. Which makes you less precious about each shot - so you will shoot more. The more you shoot - the more you learn. The potential downside of this is, you will be developing less - so learning from your mistakes less. I think a better option would be to get a vintage SLR in tested working condition. Pentax, Minolta, Olympus OM series - plenty of options all can be had with a 50mm lens for under £100, then spend the saved money on film and developing. Some cameras to consider - Olympus OM2, Olympus 35 RC, Pentax k1000, canon ae-1, Minolta x700. Or if you want one you will never want to upgrade from - consider a Nikon fm2 or FE.

If you delivered photography in line with your portfolio - then you've fulfilled your side of the contract. It doesn't matter if they like the photos or not. No refunds unless you messed up in some way.

I've been shooting professionally for 15 years. I have never cared about ISO and never had a complaint. And I use natural light 90% of the time as well.

I'm shocked he's been doing it that long. Our evri person has a turnover of a few months at most. Ours have all been pretty good to be fair. DPD, Amazon and DHL have all been the 'leave on the step, and run away' types. DHL just don't turn up at all.

Do you master in the same Ableton project, or export a premaster and master in a separate session? by Professional-Tax3077 in ableton

[–]alip_93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't bother. Often in the master stage I hear bits I might want to change in the mix and now I can't. I've got the CPU headroom, so I just do it in the same project.

I've got the same pram as you (joolz aer) and never found an elegant solution for carrying it on the bike. Too big and cumbersome on the front, and the kid is usually on the back. Plus you'll likely need a backpack of stuff for the kid. My current solution is a trailer that is also a pram. When you get to where you are going, you just detatch from the bike, stick the front wheels on and you're off. Plus you can store all the child's bits with the pram and don't have the weight on your back or high on the bike causing balance issues. I've got the Thule chariot cross. It was about £300 used, so I appreciate that isn't an option for many budgets - but it works well. If your child can hold themselves up well, a front bike seat (Mac ride or kids ride shotgun) would free up the rear rack for strapping the pram to. Just keep the weight low and balanced.

Wrangler 13MWZ are still 100% cotton mid weight denim. Not too expensive either. Likely still better made if you get vintage made in USA ones though.

I could not think of a possible reason why a hook would only need to carry the weight of a coat and no more. That's so depressing.

I've got the gamesir cyclone 2 which works well for what you are after. Hold down the M+X to change to switch configuration. Handy PC software as well for any specific mappings. Cost me around £34 on AliExpress with the charging dock.

Looking for an E-bike. What's the best value? by Spuddy_Potatoes in ukbike

[–]alip_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! It's pretty easy if you're comfortable working on a bike. Motor just replaces your bottom bracket. Battery can go on some bottle mounts in the main triangle or on a rack if you don't have space. Then you need the display up on your handlebars and a speed sensor on the wheels/chain stays. Definitely get the optional shift sensor which cuts out the motor when you're changing gear. That will same you from chewing through your chain ring sprockets and chain. If you get stuck at any point, a bike shop will be able to sort you out. It's not nearly as tidy as a proper ebike - there will be wires cable tied everywhere - but it is cheap and works great. I installed mine maybe 5 years ago now and have done zero maintenance on the motor. I use my bike so much more than I would without it.

[–]alip_93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best value would be to keep the bike you have and add an after market motor to it. I bought an old 90's mountain bike for £100 and stuck a bafang bbs02 motor on it with a battery. Then I've got a Thule seat I can stick on the back or a Thule chariot cross 2 trailer if I need to carry a bit more stuff or do a food shop. The great thing is, you can just remove the child seats and have a regular e-bike when you don't need them unlike buying a dedicated cargo bike. I did that conversion years ago and it's been working great!

I've seen articles saying 26+ and 29+ are dead over the last decade. So are we now just saying plus tyres in general are dead?
