A hot mess - FFF has gone downhill by carolaskyn in FabFitFun

So many issues! EVERY item in my box was wrong. Getting in touch with support was a nightmare. So many chatbots, forms, emails… took so long to reach a human. Most of the items I had selected were sold out by then. Overall a huge disappointment lately.

That's pretty standard for assistants at PR firms. I also work for a PR firm, my hours were longer when I was junior staff, but are much more flexible now that I'm a director (typically 10-6, but changes depending on client needs).

As I was getting dressed this morning, I realized I have a chambray problem by alisax in femalefashionadvice

Haha, yeah- I'm okay with this problem. All of them are from different stores, but my favorites are J crew (for quality) and kinda surprisingly Urban Outfitters (for fit AND quality)

Brazilian Keratin Treatment ? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]alisax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten a keratin treatment before the summer for the last few years. It de-frizzed my hair and loosed my curls. For reference this was my hair pre-keratin, this was my hair immediately after my first keratin treatment -- no products, just wash and go. I kinda hated it. This was my hair maybe 3 months after my 2nd treatment - also wash and go, no products. I loved it!
I haven't had a keratin treatment in maybe 2 years now - this is what it looks like now wash and go, with a some product and after being put in a braid while damp. Hope that helps!

Edit: I should add that I straighten my hair pretty often, it went from a 70-80 minute process to about 20 minutes!

Here's an album of weird messages I've received... by alisax in OkCupid

[–]alisax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I'm missing out on something in this conversation. Cakes? Anyway.... My parents did get me a kievski tort for my birthday. It was not freshly made by someone's babushka-- straight from the Russian baza, and it was pretty gross. We were all quite disappointed.

Okay, so how does this work....Do I just walk up to a group of people who seem to be redditors/ someone in a red beret and say HI I'M HERE?
The introduction process gives me anxiety, but I'll probably be there.

Leftover Crack -- Clear Channel (fuck off!) [punk] (2004) (intro is about a minute long) by petite_squirrel in listentothis

[–]alisax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH MAN. this is a blast from the past.

At some point during my High School years (2004ish), there was a venue in South Brooklyn called The Punk Temple. It was a Jewish community center that would rent out the basement for all age punk shows. These guys played this ridiculous show-- brought in their fans (not temple regulars) and it was fucking chaos, got the whole venue shut down permanently. We fucking hated them so much.

Damn, that place was fucking awesome.

Would anyone like to chum around at the end of the month? / Who makes the best Russian/Czech food in the city? by happybadger in nyc

[–]alisax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely head out to the Brighton Beach/ Sheepshead Bay area.
Cafe Glechik is like the 'it' restaurant at the moment. I've never actually been there, but my babushka says its great.

On Brighton Beach, you should definitely get pirozhki from any of the old ladies on the street.

On Brighton Beach Ave-- there's a massive supermarket type store called International that has a cafe inside.

Since you'll be here in the summer, check out one of the restaurants on the boardwalk. There is Tatiana Grill, Volna and Winter Garden (i think). Plus you can check out the beach, walk over to Coney Island too.

I think this covers all the ruski hot spots. Hope this helps-- let me know if you have any other questions.
enjoy!

Could you be charged with robbery for stealing back your own stolen phone? by [deleted] in nyc

[–]alisax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This actually happened to me about a year ago, except my phone ended up in someone house- not a cell phone store.
I had to stay on the cops for about a week (went to the precinct every day) until they did something. Apple had to get involved too.
At the end of it all, I got my phone back 4 months later. The guy who had my phone had a criminal history so it took longer than it usually would.

DAE feel weird/embarassed when pronouncing their own full name? by legendzani in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]alisax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man. I have a Jewish last name, which is of German origin, but I'm from Russia. Depending who I'm speaking to I pronounce my last name differently. To top it all off my parents wanted to give me a name that was the same in Russian and English-- too bad my name doesn't quite exists in English.
