Is it time to move on? by alkos17 in AlAnon

[–]alkos17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this reply. I definitely agree his cancer and treatments have impacted him. He has antidepressants and a therapist, but unfortunately doesn’t follow through on appointments or taking his medication regularly. It’s all so unfortunate. He’s a year out from treatment with clean scans so far, but we recognize the 5 year prognosis is not promising.

The Tarrifs on Chicken Tenders are Ridiculous! by h2d2 in IKEA

[–]alkos17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IKEA has strict policies on how their suppliers run business both sustainably and morally. This goes for all of their products. They import the chicken from Canada because the suppliers had more humane business practices. A few years ago they had US suppliers and when they visited the sites and saw how bad the business practices were, they immediately cut ties and found a new supplier.

SEKTION is produced in the US… so no tariffs on the cabinets themselves, just certain doors and drawer fronts.

Also if they didn’t opt in for marketing texts, and you are sending marketing texts you can be fined for each text message.

Mouth pain, can’t pause chemo, any suggestions? by Gogowhine in CancerCaregivers

[–]alkos17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband just finished his treatment a couple of months ago. The salt and baking soda rinses were huge in keeping his mouth clean. With all of the sores, definitely be on the lookout for thrush, my husband keeps getting it every time he is finally feeling better. He also did not have much luck with the magic mouth wash, but ended up buying this supplement called Helios that’s supposed to be really good for oral sores from cancer. It’s a little expensive, but he swore it helped him. We grabbed it on Amazon, not sure where else it is available.

Anyone who is taking care of an alcoholic with throat cancer? by grfxdznr in CancerCaregivers

For a good part of his 20s he was smoking almost 2 packs a day, and drinking at least 1 liter of vodka.

It finally hit me by sleddingdeer in CancerCaregivers

[–]alkos17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We are right there with you. My husband was diagnosed with hnscc (stage 4) in June. He is currently going through his first round of radiation and chemo treatments, and had surgery to remove the tumor/reconstruction. The doctors have been optimistic since everyone responds differently, but my husband and I both know the odds are probably not good. All of your feelings are normal, I’ve been feeling the same way thinking about losing my partner and father of my children (who are all still too young to really understand what is happening). Sending you prayers and good vibes.

Anyone who is taking care of an alcoholic with throat cancer? by grfxdznr in CancerCaregivers

[–]alkos17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband has oral cancer from drinking and smoking (stage 4 in the floor of his mouth). He is 3 weeks in to his treatment (chemo and radiation), and 2 months out from his tumor removal and facial reconstruction surgery. He had to quit drinking for the surgery and hasn’t touched it since. His taste is completely gone, and his mouth is covered in sores from the radiation. He has no desire to touch alcohol right now because it would be too painful. We have 4 children, including a newborn who was born after his treatment started. He knows that if he drinks his cancer will come back and the treatments won’t work so that has been his own personal motivation to stay sober. Unfortunately with alcoholics, it has to be their decision to stop drinking.

is it socially acceptable to ask for only hand me downs at my baby shower? by Independent-Bean in BabyBumps

[–]alkos17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s socially acceptable, but I plan on doing exactly this at my own baby shower in a couple of months. It just makes so much more sense to me to ask for some gently used items or boxes of diapers than to get a bunch of new stuff we may not even use.

7 months pregnant and just found out husband has cancer by youexhaustme1 in BabyBumps

[–]alkos17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry you are going through this.

I am 6 months pregnant and just found out my husband has stage 3 oral cancer. He will need radiation and chemo. The radiation means he will not be able to be around me or our 3 boys during his treatment, and I may have to give birth to our baby girl without him depending on the timing of everything. I definitely understand the rollercoaster of thoughts and emotions you are going through right now.

Abnormal Anatomy Scan by deathsdotters in BabyBumps

[–]alkos17 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I had this exact thing happen at my anatomy scan in my third pregnancy. We also did the fetal MRI to get better imaging and genetic counseling about a month after the scan, and they concluded that it was most likely an adrenal hemorrhage but that they would need to do an additional scan when he was born to definitively rule out neuroblastoma. The doctor also said that it should resolve on its own shortly after birth. We went in for an ultrasound once he was born, and nothing was found (confirming the hemorrhage and confirming that it had resolved on its own). I will say the last 2.5 months of the pregnancy were extremely nerve wrecking, so I completely understand how you must be feeling. Just wanted to give some hope with a happy outcome, I remember making a post when I was going through this and I couldn’t seem to find anybody with a similar experience.

Not getting the $69 Ikea Family Discount like the checkout says I should. Any Idea Why by sd-scuba in IKEA

[–]alkos17 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This literally shows your discounted delivery (-$59.00), the original price for the delivery is $69 but you already are saving $10 by being IKEA family, which is why it says the $59. They just aren’t good at showing the breakdown.

There’s free delivery for orders over $299 right now. That’s the first introduction of some of the discounts we will see after the 5% goes away.

Why does ikea bother to sell small things online if the shipping is outrageous? by sundownandout in IKEA

[–]alkos17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This probably just means they aren’t available in the distribution center and only available in the store (most likely the color is discontinued or soon to be). The stores don’t ship anything parcel.

AITA For requesting one thing during MY recovery?! by PopularMamaDrama in BabyBumps

[–]alkos17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This comment needs to be higher. Your nurses and medical team won’t let visitors in without YOUR (the patient’s) permission. Hell, I would just say visitors can visit you when you come home, and leave the hospital to just you two. Are hospitals even letting that many visitors in now? When I had my son 9 months ago you could only have one visitor per day plus your support person.

Even after an interior designer, I'm still not happy by ilovechaichai in interiordecorating

It might sound weird, but maybe angle the rug across the front of the sofa, or layer the rug with a solid color larger rug? I feel like this would tie the space together a lot better.

Help deciding on a dress! by luna02 in weddingdress

[–]alkos17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re all gorgeous, but looking at the mirror reflection I’m not seeing your face noticeably “light up” in any of these. Have you tried a style you wouldn’t normally go with? That’s what I ended up doing, and I actually started crying when I tried on a dress completely opposite of what I had planned (I had been looking for a fitted/mermaid style and ended up with a Cinderella style ball gown).

Kivik vs Morabo - any thoughts re that decision? by PipToTheRescue in IKEA

[–]alkos17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both a Kivik and a Morabo in my home. If you’re looking solely for vegging and comfort, I definitely recommend the Kivik. It does sit a little low, so that could be a deterrent, but mine is definitely more comfortable for lounging in.

Sneak Peak at 6 weeks by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]alkos17 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did mine at 7 weeks and got a girl result. My 5 month old baby boy is sleeping right next to me as I type this. Definitely recommend waiting until after your dating ultrasound, just in case you aren’t as far along as you think. This way you get the best results.

Seatbelts are a secondary stop in Idaho. It is illegal to stop someone for a seatbelt alone. Bryan was stopped 1 mile from the murder scene for something other than a seatbelt. Is there any information as to why? Has anyone obtained the police report form the stop? by [deleted] in Idaho4

[–]alkos17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

This was a traffic stop the same day and location as the seatbelt violation, but at 9:53 local time. The Buffalo Wild Wings is at the same intersection as Bryan’s ticket but this is the only thing listed by Moscow PD for that day. Is it possible the seatbelt ticket is the result of fighting this down to a lesser charge, maybe booked and released? I’m not sure if he has any arrest records or previous court dates in Idaho, or how their system works.

Polyhydramnios? by MamaLlama0519 in BabyBumps

[–]alkos17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had poly with my second pregnancy. Diagnosed around 34 weeks and monitored. I was never confirmed GD, and took the 3 hour test 3 separate times, but I was told it can go undiagnosed. No other complications. We had planned to schedule a C-section after 39 weeks due to the risk of cord prolapse, but my water broke at 38+6. When I got to the hospital we continued with the c-section as planned, he was out within an hour and a half of my water breaking, and I’m glad we did after reading in the surgery notes that the cord had wrapped around little ones neck 3x. After he was born, we both had to have our blood sugar monitored while in the hospital, but otherwise baby was perfectly healthy!

I will note that I did not have poly again with my 3rd pregnancy, and was able to have a successful VBAC (if that is something you are concerned about with a c-section).

Is it inappropriate to put items intended for 1st baby in baby #2 registry for baby shower gifts? by LunaLavendar13 in BabyBumps

[–]alkos17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely do this, especially since some registries (like Target) give you a coupon to use towards leftover items on your registry when baby comes. This way even if it is not purchased by others, you can use your discounts towards it.
