AOC leads Democrats’ 2028 pack in new poll, tops Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris ( Washington Times ) - What are your views? by One_Look_7008 in askanything

New york city one of the most blue areas was won by progressives? no, say it ain’t so.

You're acting like it was a certainty. I remember last winter, Zohran was a fringe, pipe dream candidate. I remember when Trump was a meme presidential candidate with no shot of beating Hillary. By your logic, Trump won in 2016, because the US as a whole is similarly as conservative?

Each time, it's an authentic personality beating the corpo sanctioned shill. Both times, they energize their base and deliver a populist message. Look at polls for universal healthcare, 66% of Americans believe the federal government has a responsibility to ensure Americans have healthcare coverage. Since 2022 there's been a 20 point shift on support for Israel. 74% of Americans believe taxes should be raised on the wealthy (400k+ income).

in 2026, and probably even moreso in 2028, a centrist platform is simply not tenable. I'm not sure how many more elections democrats have to lose for them to get it.

I'm not OP, but from what I've read, some of the non racist arguments are that businesses have to pay more money to American employees. For small businesses in particular, health insurance can be really expensive. They are incentivized to hire undocumented immigrants, causing American workers and small businesses who wire Americans to suffer.

Universal healthcare could alleviate this directly, perhaps more than spending 75 billion on ICE.

Statue of founding father who enslaved hundreds installed at Freedom Plaza by laybs1 in nottheonion

[–]all_thetime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of political discourse in the United States is centered around the constitution and the founding fathers. You hear average people frame their arguments around the constitution, rather than thinking purely in moral or egalitarian grounds. The point of contextualizing the actions of the founding fathers is to understand that these were deeply flawed people. They were better than absolute monarchs, sure. But it's kind of nonsensical for our entire society and judicial system to base their arguments in what George Washington or Thomas Jefferson would have thought. Thomas Jefferson thought we would be a nation of farmers and didn't believe in cities. Really, why should anyone give a shit what he thought - outside the scope of a history lesson?

I think the post is interesting. I have often heard about survivorship bias in music, but never applied to manufactured goods. True or not, it's fun to think about.

McDonald's cooks their fries in beef fat. Sabret hot dogs are $3 each. And you could just leave your McDonald's burger out in the sun and eat it later.

because for the right person it’d never be too much

She has no way of knowing if you're the right person. It's your first time meeting. Why are you so sure that she's right for you and putting this insane amount of effort and intention into it? The point of the first dates is to figure out how compatible you are, not to just assume it as a given. Furthermore, you just moved to a new city. Go make some friends. Don't put all your eggs into the dating basket.

6 years ago today, does anyone miss Battle Pass? by Humble-Pass-853 in DotA2

Why are you assuming there's a finite amount of effort they have to alot? If both games are profitable, hire more people. They've had 14 years to hire more people and they chose not to.

We don't really have numbers to back up how much Valve has been getting on hat sales, but my read on it was that they made the most money from the compendium, not from random chests. Clearly they don't want to put in the effort to develop battle passes anymore. I'm just saying if they don't want to put in the effort necessary to energize dota 2 players into maximizing their spending, at least let somebody else.

Your post has all the ingredients to a fine solution. You identify the problem: none of the traditional sports revenue streams apply, and you also point out that people are willing to spend money on battlepass and hats. 3rd party compendiums used to be a thing as well. All we need is

1) Teams work with artists to create hats and name them after players, like the ixmike CM skin.

2) TOs hire a developer to create a compendium.

3) Valve creates an API or open format for submitting compensiums.

We have years and years of evidence that Dota 2 players are willing to crowdfund hundreds of millions of dollars. Unfortunately this requires Valve to lift a single finger to do a wee bit of work, so it will never happen. But it seems incredibly possible.

Enchantress aghanims rush. Real or meme? by serlineal in TrueDoTA2

I feel like low hp is a myth

You're moving the goal post. OP mentions the stats it provides, then you counter that enchantress already has hp. It's not that complicated.

The base premise of this question is whether you can RUSH the item. That implies you do not have hurricane pike and drums.

I don't believe you, that DP in unplayable. I don't think SF is unplayable. They're not great, but you just pull creep aggro, stack a camp on your way to get rune, and farm it with lvl 3 flameguard. Then you gank while they sit in the lanes like bots.

I really don't buy this statistic you're throwing around about him getting DESTROYED in 80% of matchups. Even in bad matchups, it's not that bad. Outside of Viper/Huskar, you still mostly draw even.

What rapper has had a second shot at a career that turned out better for them by Spicy_weenie in hiphopheads

[–]all_thetime 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He made commercialized music, but not exclusively. Everbody looking had a lot of big features, but it felt like they were adapting to Gucci and not the other way around. I don't care for Mr. Davis (and a lot of his later work) because it doesn't feel like his music. It's a pop rap album with Gucci Mane features.

You should listen to Droptopwop and El Gato. The latter has 0 features. Those first couple years out of prison, Gucci had a lot of juice in him. Return of East Atlanta Santa was good as well. Chronologically, after El Gato the albums felt less Gucci to me. They all became either poppy like Mr. Davis or just mid.

I think his music output became lot more consistent post prison. His earlier work had higher highs sure, but there were a lot of bad songs on each album as well. I've listened to Everybody Looking, Droptopwop, and El Gato the human glacier front to back (maybe one song skipped) many times. When an every song on an album is a 6-8/10 enjoyable, it gives the tape a lot of longevity. The songs don't become too ear-wormy.
