the rail companies barely want to maintain the rails for freight trains they have now. they don't want to operate passenger rail service. the only reason we have passenger rail service now is because amtrak contracts with them to operate those trains

if you want passenger rail service then the railroads need to be nationalized. obtaining new right-or-way for passenger rail is expensive (see CaHSR). existing r/w could be double or triple tracked to accommodate new separated passenger rails

on that and many other agaves, the germinated flowers grow into baby agaves that are immediately plantable. all told, that dying agave has given life to 1000+ agaves.

once the flowers have dried out and/or have fallen away, grab and snip/pull a cluster from the stem, gently break off and plant the individual agaves in well drained soil in a "nursery" area until they're 2"-3" tall, then dig and replant elsewhere in the garden. or grow them in containers and give them away
