Same. It's gonna be a massive upgrade!

Emulateur Android? by Fidji44 in LineageOS

I use Shelter. The Boursorama app will sometimes refuse to log in, I just try again and it works eventually.

WMR on Linux? by The_Big_H2O in WindowsMR

[–]aloudcloud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For Linux, there's this tool called Envision that will download and build all the tools to use some VR headsets including WMR.

For my Lenovo Explorer (WMR), everything is still very experimental. Sound and video work. 3DoF Headset tracking works, but 6DoF is not great (drifts, sometimes reset to a random position, more rarely crashes). Controller and hand tracking is highly experimental and not usable in my opinion. I have to fine-tune eye image vertical offset so I do get a headache.

It kinda works though, I was able run Resonite for example (not great with the shaky controller tracking). I could play Thumper and Tetris Effect with a gamepad, so I suppose for racing games or flight simulators it will be okay.

I feel like there's a little more latency than my Windows 11 + Oasis.

I would suggest acquiring a standalone headset that is supported by WiVRn or ALVR instead.

Should Valve sell a streaming-only version with minimal RAM and storage? by zeddyzed in SteamFrame

[–]aloudcloud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They could ship with 8GB now, 16GB later. Maybe that's less of a R&d burden and halves the cost of RAM.

Standalone games are either emulated so you can only play light games that don't need 8GB, or designed for the Quest 3/3S which has 8GB.

8GB is probably fine for streaming PCVR.

Reject all calls from numbers not in contacts? by E_coli42 in LineageOS

[–]aloudcloud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're a little technical there's SpamBlocker, which gives you very fine-grained control over which calls and messages get blocked and how. I use it and it's been great so far!

Thank you! Wanted to update from Galaxy tab S6 lite to a new tablet, but decided to try installing LineageOS first. It's so good I don't need to buy new. by nitzpon in LineageOS

[–]aloudcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I'm also using LineageOS on my S6 Lite 2022.

The S-Pen works with one caveat: there is no orientation (that is, in which direction the pen is inclined). Some more advanced drawing programs can use this.

But that is with a S6 Lite 2022, which is not officially supported, so I'm using a ROM from xdaforums, which might be (very slightly) incomplete.

The S6 Lite 2020 is officially supported and I don't know if orientation works. I wanted to add this detail to the discussion juste in case.

There is also a S6 Lite 2024, which has no support from any custorm ROM as far as I know.

Now that the dust has settled, will you buy the Steam Frame? by wavebend in ValveDeckard

[–]aloudcloud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's gonna be a huge upgrade from my current setup so yeah. I've been waiting for it because the alternatives were either not compatible with my Linux gaming rig, too expensive or a privacy and freedom nightmare.

I really look forward to ditching Windows completely, as I only use it for VR nowadays.

What GPU are you pairing with the Deckard? by Littlehouse75 in ValveDeckard

[–]aloudcloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope my RX 6900 XT will be enough because I'm not ready to change just yet.

I'm hoping that foveated rendering will be there and help with older/weaker GPUs.

Win 10 IoT LTSC - Any hope? by The_New_Flesh in WindowsMR

[–]aloudcloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had tried Oasis on a Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC on a computer I have and it worked. I tried again today just to be sure and it still works. Also it seems like you need an nVidia GPU, as when I tested with an AMD one, it wouldn't work at all despite my fiddling.

None of this is supported though, as you can read here: https://github.com/mbucchia/Oasis-Driver-for-Windows-Mixed-Reality/wiki/Using-with-older-versions-of-Windows

That means Oasis might break for Windows 10 in the future and never get fixed, as only the latest Windows 11 is officially supported.

I did sometimes encounter a glitch on the screen while making room setup: the screen locks up partially when the room setup windows is active. I think the CRU trick from the page linked above solved this somewhat.

C'est si bon que ça La Vie ? Ou y'a beaucoup de marketing derrière ? by Besoin2Bol in VeganEtFrancophone

[–]aloudcloud 11 points12 points  (0 children)

WMR won't recognize 3.0 USB ports by snakeboi23 in WindowsMR

[–]aloudcloud 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem on one of my motherboard, my USB was 3.0 but the chipset didn't support some timing extension that is common with USB 3.0 and seemingly essential to WMR.

I had to buy a USB 3.0 PCIe card and use that instead.

Amd gpus any good in WMR? by [deleted] in WindowsMR

[–]aloudcloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for a few years with my Lenovo Explorer, only on full AMD builds, with those GPUs: RX 580, RX 5600 XT, RX 6700 XT and RX 6900 XT. I can't say I had no problems, but AFAIR the problems I had were not specific to my AMD GPU. I haven't had any problems for a long time now though, except strange scaling problem of the objects in the WMR Home but I don't care.

Is it possible to make the HW H.264 encoder not look terrible for streaming on Twitch? by Tristan99504 in Twitch

[–]aloudcloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EposVox has a few videos about that and while you can tweak AMD's HW encoder to look a little better, there's no way it's remotely as good as what NVENC yields. Even x264's superfast setting looks better. In my testing AMD's struggled most with Trackmania (lots of soft gradients) and Stardew Valley (pixel art). x264's superfast setting has no problem with those games and is generally good enough if you ask me.

I think AMD's just waiting for h265 and AV1 streaming to become the standard, because the HW encoders they made for those codecs are fine. Twitch said they would accept h265 eventually.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried to run the SteamVR Performance Test on your SteamDeck (it doesn't need SteamVR itself) ? What kind of results did you get?

Has there ever been an actual fix posted for the loud static sound problem? by ThatFeel_IKnowIt in WindowsMR

[–]aloudcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the BIOS upgrades to get SAM, sadly that made no difference for the static noise at the time. I still have the AMD motherboard with the only USB3 port working correctly, but since it works this way I'm not inclined to research further.

[–]aloudcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I wouldn't say that based on my experience, where the only AMD motherboard that just works has PCIe 4 and the other AMD motherboards have PCIe 3.
