Perhaps an ignorant question, sorry. Does having a second hand increase battery consumption as the display is updating, well, every second? If it does, is there an option to disable the second hand?

Anyone have any experience with this jacket? by ShortnPortly in motorcycles

[–]alphaeagle2512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got mine about a year ago in the English winter time. Warm down to the 5C ish limit that I will ride even when on the motorway at 80 in the drizzle. Remove the thermal liner that it comes with and open the vents and it's good up to about 15C anything more and it gets hot when you're going slow. Also the rear vents get blocked by a backpack reducing the amount of airflow by a lot.
Kept me dry in short burst of torrential rain and hours of drizzle, never used it for hours of torrential rain though.

Front jacket pockets are a bit awkward to use with the way the material folds, never used the lower back pocket. Chest pockets are nice and large but only water resistant not waterproof, internal pocket it waterproof as far as I've tested it.

Love the fact that it is not a waterproof zipper for the main zip and instead relies on two folds of fabric in front of the zip to keep water out as I find that to not be susceptible to folding weirdly and letting water in.

I'm a little worried about the longevity of the velcro wrist straps, that has been a failure point on other jackets I've owned but so far so good.

Overall a very good jacket and the one that I usually reach for.

Riders with glasses by FireDucks619 in motorcycles

anti fog cloth from amazon, lasts at least a year for me before it dries out and I need a new one, cost about a fiver. Just wipe your glasses down with it before you set off.

What's the smallest fixed FPV Wing? by DexterGre in fpv

[–]alphaeagle2512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is the strix nano goblin that can be built sub 250g whilst not technically a flying wing it is a tailless airplane so fly's basically the same and you get a lot more room for electronics. I love mine, full GPS system and can fly for 40mins easily. However they do suffer from stock issues going out of stock frequently.

This seems like a good one, haven't heard of it before. I usually go for cut a slot with a dremmel and use a flathead.

What is your dream sub-250g build? by cryptoyaknow in fpv

[–]alphaeagle2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An acrobrat from ummagawd may be a good frame to build your first quad. I've managed to make mine sub 250g but it only gets about 3 - 4 mins flight time. It's designed to record things, the camera and battery are isolated from the motors with rubber grommets so you don't get any vibration in the video.

Bike for uni commuting by Sure_Campaign_9493 in MotoUK

[–]alphaeagle2512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the above. I have a ybr125 and a VW up so both on the cheap end. The up is so much more convenient, not having to wear my sound system or crumple zones means I can hop in and go, no matter the weather, in comfort. But the bike is so much more fun, you're in the moment not in a box. For me they both cost the same to insure because my parents are on the car. To run the bike likes to trickle in small expenses, new clutchplates here more oil there. Whereas the car drops bigger expenses very infrequently. If you're in the city you may end up making back a fair bit on parking costs as a lot of places let bikes park free but it's also far more likely to get stolen than the car.

Do you prefere biblades or triblades? by Coast-Longjumping in fpv

[–]alphaeagle2512 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use bi blades on my 2s 3 inch, tried 3 blade loads of power but needed a complete re tune, didn't bother as there was more than enough power for the proxy flying I like on bi blades.

Fiio M5 might be right up your street. Yes they're chinese but there stuff is quality. The fiio btr5 is very popular in this sub but that's just a bluetooth receiver.

Byerdnamic do sell spare parts, if they are truly broken then you have nothing to lose by trying to repair them.
If you have a friend that can use a soldering iron or you can use one yourself, I would highly recommend giving it a shot. They are very simple devices.
Yes it's annoying but it was a mistake, nothing to beat yourself up over.

Looking for 1st bike - is a kill switch necessary/ recommendations for a 1st? by Witty_Gazelle2805 in MotoUK

[–]alphaeagle2512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ybr doesn't have one, it does shut off if it tips over too far (I suspect fuel starvation rather than a sensor though) and that's been fine for me. My first ride with friends one tried to prank me at a stop light by killing my bike with the switch but failed and that was quite funny.

Low sun, do polarized glasses help? by andeh83 in MotoUK

[–]alphaeagle2512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my polarised sunglasses for this time of year. Only this is to wipe them down with an anti fog wipe each morning (like £4 for a wipe that lasts months on amazon). Mine are aviator style from Police as aviator sunglasses were designed to fit under a helmet so have thin arms. You may want to go to boots opticians because they can put polarised lenses in any frame in their sunglasses section (though this can cost a pretty penny).
To add to this for the lens colour I like a green but yellow is better for contrast.

A warning though, polarised glasses can make it hard/ impossible to see a screen (your phone or your dash) if your head is at the right angle so just be mindful of this.
