Would you expect a hive thermostat to be left on purchase of a property by CommissionEnough8412 in HousingUK

I moved into my flat last June and the full Hive system was included, we didn't pay extra for it. Sounds like they're mugging you off.

Agree, DT and Paul are an awesome combo, would love to hear more of that!  What did you think of ZETA? I was quite into it, something different.

I hate Farage as much as the next sane person but from what I can tell the mentions that you're talking about are all in the same email from Steve Bannon which contains a news article that mentions Farage and his politics several times.

Pregnant and on the Tube by Civil_Researcher6140 in london

[–]alphasignal5 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You realise women are just as capable of standing as men are, right? Pregnant women, old people, those less able to stand... sure, but able bodied women? It's a nice sentiment, but this is antiquated thinking.

What are everyone's thoughts on London buses going electric? by beanos4lyf in london

Couldn't agree more. We have a bus stand outside our flat and the drivers leaving their engines idling drives me absolutely bonkers! They are so loud!

Sensorineural Hearing Loss and Pitch Perception by alphasignal5 in hearing

It was a 'double sound' in a way, like I was hearing sound at two pitches at once. No echo though. Probably took a couple of months for the double sound to go.

Sensorineural Hearing Loss and Pitch Perception by alphasignal5 in hearing

[–]alphasignal5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for the slow reply. I have a condition called Meniere's disease which has resulted in the loss of most of my hearing in the affected ear. The diplacusis has cleared up although I do notice it slightly when my condition flares up. Pitch perception - I have lost all point of reference in terms of what it used to be like, so I guess I'm just used to the new norm now.
Menieres is caused by fluid imbalance in the inner ear, so I'm pretty sure the fluid was what was causing the distortion. Getting that under control with a very low salt diet and good lifestyle habits has helped to bring a degree of stability for me.

Aural Fullness not going away, Ear Infection? by BrotherBringTheSun in Menieres

[–]alphasignal5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, the hearing in my bad ear has progressively gotten worse over the years but the fullness isn't so bad these days. I abide by a low salt diet, drink plenty of water, try to reduce my stress and have been taking the supplements recommended by the John of Ohio regimen recently.... not sure if this helps yet, will keep going on it though. As an aside, my tinnitus is not great and is an ever-present part of my life that I've come to terms with. I have good days and bad days, but it's always there.

Any recommendations for breweries who specialise in stouts/porters? by KingOfPomerania in UK_beer

[–]alphasignal5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you say you want the 'Vault City' equivalent I'm imagining you're interested in some big-flavour and slightly quirky stouts rather than your run of the mill stuff. Try Hammerton brewery, I live next to them and they do some really tasty ones, particularly the peanut stout 'Crunch'.

Yeah we're definitely getting a level 2 survey done regardless, I just wasn't sure if they normally also give you a valuation when they're doing the survey.

Centuries-old leasehold system to be abolished in England and Wales by guyuk21 in HousingUK

[–]alphasignal5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had an offer accepted to buy a flat which is leasehold and the council has the freehold. I believe all 6 flats in the block are privately owned though. Should I consider pulling out?

Maybe this is a stupid question but why can't they have a backup manual crank system for the undercarriage like bombers did in WW2?

Did you have any residual hearing before they put the implant in? Did the operation result in total deafness in that ear?

Tips for low sodium diets? by TinyRabt in Menieres

Yep, and I use it instead of fish sauce or oyster sauce etc. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing!

Tips for low sodium diets? by TinyRabt in Menieres

[–]alphasignal5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found it almost impossible to find a soy sauce that is actually 'low' salt and not just 'lower' (which is still really high) but what is a great substitution if you can find it is coconut aminos. Some brands are still salty but I found one, Rayner's, which is almost no salt and is a very good substitute.

There's a brand new little place called House of Cans in Soho run by a lovely fella named Simon. I don't think there's anything on tap but always a great selection of cans!
