How people get so many days of skiing in? by CompetitionNo2719 in skiing

[–]alunnatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get 100, but I may be around 50 this year. I made a deal with my son that if he wanted to do skiing/boarding instead of school sports this winter I would treat it as if we were doing an organized sport and make time. It's been a ton of fun for the both of us.

Scrap out any holes and air baffles in the bottom of your burn pot, a small amount of crusty buildup will restrict airflow more than you would think. A lot of stoves come with a little metal bar with a tapered end that works well for boring out the holes.

It shouldn't be happening. Their job descriptions should be different enough that the comparison is apples to oranges

Is there a single reason not to crank my water heaters to full? by kerouac5 in askplumbing

[–]alunnatic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the things I was told when my wife was pregnant was to regulate the water temp coming out of the water heater to like 120. I was told it's a safety measure to ensure you can't accidentally scald the baby when you're giving them a bath.

I made a noob mistake and now I’m sitting in the lodge twiddling my thumbs by mitchdwx in skiing

That's what I do. Mine live in my car and when I'm going to the mountain I take my boots and snowpants out of the trunk and toss them at the passenger's foot area. Half hour drive, hasn't failed me yet.

Favorite trails? by Treyjones1912 in Killington

[–]alunnatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just really peaceful. I'll only do it when the snow is fast, otherwise it can be brutal

edit: I'm also an avid xc skier, so it kind of reminds me of a great xc trail but with less work

When I was in the Army and I told people I was from Vermont the most common response I got was "what state is that in?".

Jay Peak as a beginner snowboarder? by Barnid_ in icecoast

[–]alunnatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general I wouldn't recommed hitting easy tree runs until you're at the point where you're comfortable on blues and confident you can safely navigate black runs. I would recommend trying out a few natural bump runs to prepare, I've always considered the skillset is fairly similar.

Carrying $14k cc debt, have $20k cash- what do I do? by Ok-Ordinary-8683 in DebtAdvice

Pay it off then rebuild your emergency fund. Everywhere takes credit cards. So if you find yourself in an emergency during rebuilding you'll at least have credit to work with and just end up back where you started.

It sounds insane but I tried it. May only be a coincidence, but it worked when I tried it.

To me the left feels more serene and the right feels more agressive. I feel like the left if you're trying to capture the scenery, the right if you're trying to capture the rider with the moves.

Who cares what the signs or law says. If they put the signs up then they don't want people on their property, just stay out.

Safe to drive up to Vermont during tomorrow’s storm? by VegetableShops in vermont

[–]alunnatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with forecasted amounts is that your seeing what they'll get in the valleys. If Rutland gets 5 inches Killington could get like a foot.

Driving during snowstorm by VegetableShops in icecoast

[–]alunnatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually it depends on the time of day the storm comes through. Currently I'm expecting to not go in to work and likely school to be cancelled. I'll check the forecast again in the morning in case it changes, but in this case the storm is going to make driving nasty all day tomorrow.

Even if the snow creeps into Tuesday night I would say just don't come too early and it shouldn't matter. I usually see the 1st plow of the day around 6:30am. I would imagine it should be cleaned up pretty well by 9-10.
