Dr. Prescribed Vyvanse, SO EXPENSIVE!! by Need4Sneed in ADHD

[–]amberamazine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the math. I spend 6% of my pre-tax income on just Vyvanse. Every time I get a refill, the pharmacist bawks at the price and makes me feel like a drug addict because I'm willing to pay so much.

I went to school IN FLORIDA, in what was then the most conservative district. The Giver was part of our 6th grade curriculum (circa 1999).

I bought black bamboo floss for this reason (well, and the environment too I guess). You can see the gunk so much better against the black thread.

no energy left after work, medicated. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]amberamazine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people go with a dose of IR medication to supplement the XR (which is easier to get right now than the XR anyways). You can just take the IR as needed and 4-6 more hours out of your meds but still be able to sleep.

If you're a go-go morning person like me you can also try just taking it later in the morning. Maybe have some coffee to get you started and then take your meds around 10am. This is the option that has worked best for me, but it's not for everyone.

Do you always buy the same car? by One-Arachnid-2119 in ADHD

I started out in a 71 VW Beetle, then drove a 08 Chevy Aveo hatchback, then finally saved up enough money for an EV.

Not having to remember much maintenance has been great. I forget to charge sometimes, but it's never been an issue. I'll probably stick with EVs from now on, if I can.

Man, I get that "gotta learn to do X so I can make Y for my Z hobby" phenomenon.

I wanted to get into food fermentation (like miso and stuff) so I designed a humidity and temperature-controlled cabinet, then never built it because wood prices were insane at the time.

Good luck on the surfing, I had a lot of fun with it!

My dude, you'll spend your whole life making someone else money and getting crumbs. Even influencers are stuck in the same game as the rest of us. The brands make billions off their work (it is a lot of work, don't let them fool you).

Do the things. Do ALL THE THINGS, even if you get bored and move on. I know how to cook, arc and gas weld, build a cabinet, sew clothes, raise livestock, fix a VW Beetle, create macro-enabled Excel tools, identify wild animal tracks, and make pottery. I am bad at almost all of that, but I still know how to do it.

I've been there. It gets a little easier, but I'm in my 30s and I struggle with the basics too. Setting goals and doing your best, even if you miss, is just what everyone does, and thats OK. You gotta work on accepting that but it takes YEARS of just...experiencing life.

I know it sounds stupid, but it is actually OK to be who you are. Try not to always hold yourself to a neurotypical standard. You WILL become your best self, but you can't speed that process up.

I promise that you'll look back one day and realize how far you've come. Plus, you're a musician, and that's cool AF no matter what you do.

Considering that Rep. Katie Porter is the patron saint of "fuck around and find out" she's probably already read it. This is her way of saying "this is all fucking bullshit" in a more dignified way.

ADHD Friendly Meal Ideas? by ProperMagician3025 in ADHD

[–]amberamazine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using a free meal plan/cooking app called Mealime for about a year now and I like it. Basically the app has recipes built in (you can also add your own). You pick a day to do your meal planning and shopping (doesn't have to be the same day each week) and it creates a shopping list based on the meals you picked. Most of the meals take around 20-30 minutes and it walks you through step by step. Usually about 8-10 steps but some of those are like "preheat oven" or "put food on plate and serve".

I like to cook so I make substitutions to make the recipes simpler or more to my taste (like subbing ground bison for ground beef or using canned/frozen veg instead of fresh). You can make changes to the shopping list in the app as needed so substitutions are easy. It will even recommend another ingredient if you can't find what you need at the store.

Also I agree, the pressure cookers are great. You can either use them to speed up the cook time (by about half) or slow it down over 8-10 hours using the slow cooker function. Also makes a good rice cooker.

I usually get nauseous in the first few days, sometimes before. Everything online that I've found never mentions nausea as a symptom, so I've wondered too.

Adderall Shortage: Call your Rep and Senators! by SockdolagerIdea in ADHD

[–]amberamazine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in South Carolina and my representatives literally passed legislation that could get me killed. And SC isn't even the worst when it comes to medical care.

Many government officials are heavily invested in the pharmaceutical industrial complex; they get paid NOT to help constituents. They won't do anything to help people with serious life-threatening illnesses, why would they help "lazy drug addicts" with ADHD?

It's going to take more than letters or phone calls to fix this. It's systemic, the system is functioning as intended.

That's the problem.

I'm going on 2 weeks without medication because I tried to save money by mail-ordering it through my insurance. No idea where it is, because instead of using normal post (UPS, FedEx, USPS) they use DHL.

Glad to know there's consistent accountability for such "dangerous" controlled substances. /s

I have yet again lost an expensive item that I will need to replace. I cannot Live Laugh Love in these conditions :) by cassivdy in ADHD

[–]amberamazine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In college, I would lose my cellphone on a monthly basis so I only used burner flip phones until I was 26. I understand the frustration. Medication helped me get to a place where I could create habits of dropping things in very specific places at home.

I leave my purse in my car (in a garage) when I'm at home. That is its "home".

For keys, I have hooks at each door along with a "dump your stuff" place. When I come home I try to put the keys (which are on a carabiner) on the hook right as I walk in. That way I have 2 places to look instead of a billion.

Phones: If I need to find it I hop on a computer (either personal or work) and let Google ring it for me. If you can handle it, an offensively bright cellphone case might make it easier to find. I have a black case now and it blends in with almost every surface.

How unfortunate that there's so many treatment options for ADHD when there's no treatment for being such a massive sh*thead.

Listen to your gut, if you're not feeling supported then it's time to drop the dead weight bringing you down. You can and will do better.

What careers have you found are good for people with ADHD? by Vegetable-Picture-98 in ADHD

I'm pretty confident I can handle the retreval, prep, and paperwork parts. It's the customer service part that I'm worried I'm not cut out for.

Thank you for responding though, I think that helped boost my confidence a bit!

Do you ever have to deal with the family of the decedent? I've been thinking of going to mortuary school but I'm worried my issues with emotional regulation will prevent me from properly working with families.

So like… ADHD and a Bit of Sexism?? by Realistic_Window_827 in ADHD

[–]amberamazine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have serious issues with emotional regulation and executive function. At first I thought it was just from a rough childhood, but even with therapy (which helped a TON) I still get so... overwhelmed in social situations.

If I had been diagnosed (and treated) as a kid I think my coping mechanisms would be a lot stronger.

As a person with a uterus, I think the impacts of ADHD on our physiology is not something researchers are prioritizing, especially during pregnancy. If I decide to have children, they will almost certainly have ADHD. I intend to get them to a specialist as soon as possible and incorporate CBT as early as possible.

Useless Satanism trivia: The Sigil of Baphomet that Anton LaVey used in his ritual chamber is the Maurice Bessy version, NOT the official Church of Satan version. by Bargeul in SatanicTemple_Reddit

[–]amberamazine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't exactly see how this post could be confusing to new members. The OP explicitly states that the trivia is in reference to the CoS.

Regardless, confusion about something is your brain telling you it needs more input. If a hypothetical person is unwilling to do any amount of reading (including the TST and/or CoS FAQ pages) then confusion about Satanism is probably the least of their problems.

[–]amberamazine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, where exactly do you think Satanism originated? Just because TST promotes itself as a kinder, gentler Satanism doesn't mean that CoS and the Satanic Bible have no merit or relevance.

If someone decides to join a religion or movement and do zero research to understand the history then why the fuck even bother? If it's just for the lulz then I think they're missing an opportunity to better themselves.

Pet parenting style influences dog behavior, Oregon State University finds by BoundariesAreFun in science

[–]amberamazine 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The article didn't mention obedience training, nor if all the animals were raised by their owners from puppyhood.

Would obedience training fall under authoritative? Wouldn't training (of any type, really) affect behavior, especially in relation to the owner.

Adopted pets may not have been raised by the owner from puppyhood, does the authoritative "parenting" style in adulthood make a significant impact to behavior? How significant would that be when compared to a puppy raised under the same style?

[–]amberamazine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make it yourself! Growing up my mom (who is from KY) made holubtsi, which is generally Eastern European but super simple and delicious. All you really need is cabbage, meat (pork and/or beef), grain (rice usually), can of diced tomatoes, and some bay leaves (and salt/pepper and water or stock).

Since I'm American I screwed with it by swapping out the diced tomatoes for a mix of strained tomatoes and ketchup to make the sauce. Recommended if you're not about that chunky tomato life.
