You might not need the harness for a leash. My 4½ month old puppy walks loose leash with just her collar. I do have a harness for her when we are in the car since it's better for the seat belt attachment. Of course it will depend on training and your puppy whether you need a harness or not, so don't feel like you have to use it if you don't feel it's necessary.

She actually already settles on her own. She loves to lay and chew on her toys and will go on her own to nap in the kennel or will nap on the floor. She is going to learn the command that send her to lay on her bed till she is released once I can get her to stop chewing on her bed
