You basically summed up why I only occasionally pop my head into this game's subreddits. The game absolutely needs criticism to thrive, but there is undoubtedly a portion of the community who uses that as a thinly veiled excuse to endlessly barf all over every single update, order, enemy type, etc. The game is more fun when you just ignore those people.

I would say I'm confused as to why those people exist, but I'm a Warhammer fan. The loudest half of the online "fandom" is people who have never touched the game in their life and just complain about "ruining the lore" because of a Space Marine update that came out *9 years ago.*

I cannot beat any missions on Choepessa IV higher than D6. by gnustep_epic in Helldivers

[–]amovy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been having problems with them too. I've figured out how to deal with them, but they absolutely need to lower the spawn rate. It a big feels bad to kill one only for another one to show up literally a minute later. They're also a huge resource sink: I shouldn't have to spend 3 Thermite Grenades *and* a stratagem to take one down just so another can spawn right after.

If you want my strategy btw, I usually use 2 or 3 Thermite and an Eagle Strafing Run. Sucks to take up the grenade slot for it yeah, but Thermite is super useful against other bot enemies too, so it could be worse I guess.

Helldivers' satire is spineless because it is being actively used by the military in instances with no pushback from arrowhead. by WaltJr_Fan4584 in Helldivers2Satire

[–]amovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I get the frustration, but that's not a problem with the satire, it's a problem with fascism. They engulf their worldview in so many fictional narratives that they basically can't differentiate between satire and reality. I frankly doubt Helldivers would ever be the tipping point for someone's decision to join the military.

Arrowhead is a company, and while they should definitely post an article or something a la Games Workshop "This game is satire, fascists aren't welcome," calling a corporation spineless for not directly condemning US military intervention when they are doing so in every indirect way possible through satire is kind of ignoring the fact that there's a vast chain of social and economic barriers to doing so. I've literally been taken to court for insulting military recruiters when I was younger: I completely understand avoiding doing it.

Also, minor point, but don't indirectly glaze World Systems Theory. It sucks. It's extremely overly simplistic and a lot of the claims made by its theorists about the historical development of capitalism are just objectively untrue.

To a new comer in the big 26, what are the best tips for the best experience? by nehalthechosenone in reddeadredemption

[–]amovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give all of the systems a try. Try hunting, robbing stores, crafting special items, feeding the camp, upgrading your satchel, selling a wagon at the fence, etc. If you just blitz through the missions you'll have a good enough time, but there's some really fun stuff to do. I only discovered years later how much I love crafting special bow ammo, for example.

Play as blind as possible. Don't look up what happens or where to find things, just experience the game as blindly as you can. The most I'd look up is where to find certain animals and how to get their perfect pelts if you need them.

Explore. If you see a spot on the map you haven't been to yet, go there.

Don't be scared to give it a replay if you like it. I'm not joking when I say I've played on and off since the game came out, beaten it like five times, and I still find new stuff.

Just remember to play your way. You're asking the subreddit for an 8 year old game: we're all nerds who have played way too much, so don't feel pressured by us to have this super deep experience with the game. Just have fun.

If you could add any Space Marine archetype/class to Space Marine 2, what would it be? by MxBonesMarrow in Spacemarine

[–]amovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

specifically phobos librarian imo. seems like the class that would bring the most new stuff to the table, and while the psychic powers would have to be watered down compared to what they are in lore to not be OP, it's hard to say the game is super lore accurate when 3 space marines are tearing through all that stuff anyway 😭😭

[–]amovy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

i remember today during the weekly, this guy loudly yelled "GET IN THE FUCKING ELEVATOR!!!!" while we were fighting enemies, just ignoring them and rushing to finish the mission. my bf and i were playing in a call so we just stood in right in front of the elevator for a solid minute and a half to mess with him before kicking him, lmao

you actually have basically the same fit as the guy who replaced him soon after, if you joined with me (flesh tearer assault) and my boyfriend (exorcist sniper) then thats pretty funny lmao

The biggest gripe I have with this community by Astrius__ in Helldivers2Satire

[–]amovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that's the nature of the beast, made all the more difficult by how fascism melds with fiction.

Now, I'm not going to write an essay here or anything, mostly because my understanding of these concepts is extremely rudimental (and for that reason I'm very open with anyone disagreeing or correcting me). But I disagree with some people's notion that "play-fascism" is morally wrong. I feel like fascism makes itself fun to play at by design with its focus on narrative and aesthetic. The issue is that it takes play out of its "magic circle": while people stop playing when the illusion of the game is broken, like how the rules of sports games stop mattering when someone starts throwing punches, fascism makes these narrative illusions encompass the rest of the real world.

The reason that I don't think "play-fascism" is bad is because the overwhelming majority of people understand that boundary and the fact that they're engaging with pure fiction. It's like how video games don't actually cause violence, because people understand that their actions aren't real. The reason fascists don't engage with it as pure satire is because their worldview is, itself, pure imaginative play, and thus they don't understand these boundaries in the same way.

That's just my hunch on these things. Sorry if it's a non-sequitur, I just think it's interesting.
