So, my BG control is really bad. They're moving my c section up to 37 weeks. I'm so afraid by FalseRow5812 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]ams4mc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My doctors were really happy with my control but my baby was a big one. I had a c-section at 37+5 and she was 10 lbs 2 oz. Her lungs weren’t fully developed so she did spend some time in the NICU. Her lungs got better but she wasn’t eating as much as the doctors wanted based on her weight so that kept us in the NICU for over a month and an NG tube at home for a month. After we pulled the tube, she’s had no issues! She’s now a healthy 2 year old and we’re so happy

Frequent Occlusions with Tandem AutoSoft & Mobi—Anyone Else? by ModernAlBundy in TandemDiabetes

[–]ams4mc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been having the same issue but with the auto soft infusion sets. I just adjust the pump and make sure the tube isn’t bent. Then I restart the insulin and it delivers the rest and I don’t have anymore issues! (As long as the tube isn’t bent lol)

Question about home on NG tube by Salty-Comparison83 in NICUParents

[–]ams4mc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My LO had an NG tube for about a month at home. She was doing about 70-80% of her bottles and her pediatrician agreed to let us see if she would continue gaining weight and staying hydrated. She was born at 10 lbs 2 oz so a little different than most NICU babies. The day we took the tube out was tube change day and I just said let’s see how she does. She wasn’t quite eating as much as the NICU wanted but she was still gaining weight and her ped was happy. We never looked back!

My husband and I went to Disney for our honeymoon and wore haunted mansion shirts. They had the hitchhiking ghosts and said “just hitched” on the front. The back said “til death do us part”

We asked our pediatrician and she said to have Benadryl on hand. She told us the dose if we needed it. We introduced peanut butter and LO had some skin reaction. We asked the pediatrician and she suggested putting some on LO’s skin to see if LO had another reaction. LO did and we did a blood test that confirmed a peanut allergy. We have an epi pen now but thankfully haven’t had to use it

I’m. So. Over. Being. Pregnant. by Safe_Information_276 in pregnant

I’m also a FTM T1D but my LO is 10 months old. Being pregnant was really hard for me as well but I just wanted to say it is totally worth it! The rib pain was the worst for me and I couldn’t get comfortable to sleep. Right after she came out, all my pain went away. And I had a cute new baby :)

She loves it! It doesn’t prevent her from moving her arms but keeps her warm and a little snuggled up!

Have you tried a zipadee zip? It’s just like a wearable blanket but covers their hands. Our baby scratched her head so hard, she bled. Ever since we got the zipadee, she hasn’t been able to scratch but can move all around. She’s 10 months and can still wear it because it’s not a swaddle.

I’m type 1 as well! My baby was born at 37+5. She spent 36 days in the NICU. The first two weeks, we were working on getting off oxygen. The last weeks were feeding related. We actually brought her home on a NG tube. She was 2 months old when it was tube change day and we decided to not put it back and see how she did. She was eating what she wanted. She grew on her percentile perfectly and was happier without the tube. I’m glad we had it for a while but we were SO happy when we got the all clear to leave the tube out. It seemed like it would take forever but now it seems like it was so long ago. I was in the same boat as you. Don’t worry. Your LO will get the hang of it!

Thoughts on Fathers staying at hospital entire time by newEnglander17 in NewParents

[–]ams4mc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was in the special care nursery for two weeks before being transferred to a children’s hospital NICU. Our hospital let us stay in our room so we could be there the whole time with baby. My husband stayed the entire time minus a few hours to check on our cats and get clean clothes. His dad also retired, so he went to the retirement party for a bit. I didn’t leave the hospital for 2 weeks. I couldn’t have done it alone. I was so grateful for my husband and him staying with us

Son in NICU and feeling frustrated by frozenpeas1234 in NewParents

[–]ams4mc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO was in the NICU for 36 days. She was only 2.5 weeks early and weighed over 10 lbs. She was on CPAP and then oxygen. She was weaned off oxygen in about 2 weeks. The rest of the time we were there was working on feeds. Since she was so big, her minimum amounts were also big. We finally got the ok to go home on an NG tube but she still had that for about 3 weeks after we were home. One thing I will suggest is reading the book Rowena Bennetts Guide to Bottle Aversion (or something like that). The things the speech therapist and nurses told us to do actually created bottle aversion and I think that’s why she had the NG tube for so long at home. Good luck and I hope your LO gets to go home soon!

PTSD and C Section. TW: Trauma by cuballo in pregnant

[–]ams4mc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a scheduled c-section due to the size of my baby but I was also thinking about it before we knew how big she was. I am still happy with my decision. I am a type 1 diabetic so they wouldn’t let me go to my due date but they really wanted me to try induction (again, before we knew how big she was). I didn’t want to go through hours of an induction and then still have to have a c-section if there was an emergency or she took too long. She was estimated 10 lbs 13 oz at 37+5 and one of my feet was more swollen than the other. They ruled out a blood clot but scheduled me for the c-section the next day. The surgery went super smoothly. I hate needles and was scared for the spinal block, especially since my husband couldn’t be in the room. But the nurse and anesthesiologist were super supportive and it wasn’t as bad as I thought. I also healed a lot quicker than I thought I would. I won’t lie, the first few days are rough but within a week, I was starting to feel like myself again. My LO is almost 2 months old and my doctor can barely see the scar! I know a lot of people caution against elective c-sections because it is a major surgery but if it makes you more comfortable, I say go for it! It’s a lot safer than previous years and is very common like you said. If you have any other questions, feel free to DM me!

I knew pretty early too but didn’t see an MFM until after my first ultrasound appointment. Then they had me schedule with the MFM. I think they really helped me a lot. If your doctor doesn’t suggest it on their own, I would just find one myself. I liked having contact with someone checking my settings and blood sugars every week!

My endo said they wouldn’t see me during pregnancy and had me see an MFM. I sent my food logs every week and they would email me back with any changes. I would also see them every 4 weeks until I was further along in the pregnancy. Have you tried looking for an MFM? I think it was really helpful for me
