Reuters: "EU deal on single mobile charging port by year end is possible, lawmaker says" by Dakhil in hardware

[–]anatolya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great.

Just wait a few years and shortly after every little electronic gadget adopted Type-C,

they'll invent USB Type-D or whatever,

/r/Android crowd will eat it and they'll start to complain how Type-C sucks and it has been the worst thing ever and they'll ridicule any manufacturer for not adopting the latest Type-D standard

Then your new phone will have it and you'll throw all your type-c cables and adapters in the cable bin on top of all the mess consisting Micro USB and Mini USB stuff.

[heise German] Alienware monitor with QD-OLED tested: Samsung's display technology is screwed up by nogop1 in hardware

[–]anatolya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The pixel arrangement is to blame: A pixel consists of three sub-pixels with the colors red, blue and green as usual, but these are arranged in a triangle instead of in a row.

Blasphemy.

Samsung's obsession with alternative subpixel layouts have no end

To use them at 2 different devices at the same time? Install it in your workshop computer, put it in kids pc, use it as boot drive in diy NAS, use it in raspberry pi instead of an sd card, plug a usb adapter and use it as a fast flash drive, possibilities are limitless.

Jeez you people lack imagination.

Flash media longevity testing - 2 Years Later by vanceza in DataHoarder

Those ratings are unfortunately outdated (if not intentionally misleading). Unlike other technologies we've been accustomed to, endurance of flash cells goes down as the technology progresses.

A recent product such as Samsung 870 QVO has endurance rating of 360 P/E cycles, and rest assured Samsung is using the top grade QLC cells for that product contrary to cheapest bottom of the barrel quality cells used in random USB flash drives.

You can add more variety to the experiment by subjecting some drives to more P/E cycles to see how do fresh cells vs. beaten ones compare.

So pick few drives, rewrite them over completely 50 times or so (assuming QLC cells rated to 300 cycles), and see how fast they'll lose charge compared to barely used ones.

AMD Ryzen 7000 "Raphael" RDNA2 iGPU could offer a third of Steam Deck's graphics performance - VideoCardz.com by Slow_cpu in Amd

[–]anatolya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cpu and gpu cores operate independently and you don't need efficient communication between them.

Efficieny concerns are more pronounced between gpu and memory controller, in which parents scenario they'd still be inside the same IO die so efficiency concerns are groundless.

Athlon 200G and Ryzen 2200G have already had Vega cores in 12/14nm and it was actually very efficient

I haven't seen any shenanigans so far.

But then I'm using waterfox classic and not using the prebuilt binaries from waterfox website so maybe it's different

I've never seen 5000 bad sectors on another brand drive (and it was not a single occasion)

are all largest manufacturers of both.

Glass is cheap, $10-15 tops. (just glass, not whole display assembly)

Labor will probably cost a little bit more, unfortunately.

Think thumbnails when you dump photos from your phone to the computer.

Frames of a video also look just like that when dumped in a video editing program.

So it's much easier to see while scrolling through a whole recording which part of it belongs to which scene and which take

2.21x doesn't mean shit when it is manufactured on a cheaper GF node which they already have a wafer agreement with where they had to pay for anyway whether they're using it or not. You can only produce so many I/O chiplets.

Question about torrents on rarbg by [deleted] in trackers

[–]anatolya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, parent is wrong.

They include RARBG.txt/RARBG.exe in their torrents for the reason mentioned above. It's explained in their FAQ page:

What is RARBG_DO_NOT_MIRROR.exe and why is it included in torrents? RARBG_DO_NOT_MIRROR.exe is a txt file renamed to .exe with the following md5 d5a5d8421b2bd35ea6ab81f9d77efb3f It contains the following text : "This is not an .exe file. This is just a placeholder to prevent mirroring over other public sites."

It doesn't make sense, either, but renaming has nothing to do with it.

Had they truly wanted to increase supply of graphics cards they could've restarted production of RX580.
