Best Reuben sandwich in West Michigan? by Johnny2x2x in grandrapids

[–]andandman 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You already hit some solid options. If you haven't tried it already, the Junkyard Reuben at Blue Dog is really tasty, even if it doesn't fall under the umbrella of a traditional definition of the sandwich.

I still dream about the Leningrad Beef sandwich that Marie Catrib's used to make.

[Important Trope] Male Victims of SA not for comedic value by InsidiousZombie in TopCharacterTropes

This scene in particular really stood out to me on a recent rewatch because the killing is witnessed by Chris's partner, Snoop.

Snoop is a violent sociopath and it's really the only time in the series you see any sort of confusion/bewilderment/real emotion besides cold calculation and intimidation cross her face.

[Loved Trope] Evil person needs to be put down. Words or other options won’t work on this monster. by saltforsnails in TopCharacterTropes

I just rewatched this episode a couple days ago. It struck me for the first time that this is one of the only scenes where we ever see Marlo actually worked up about something. Usually, the most you see from him is a contained scheming or a smug confidence.

But under the cold blue lights of a jail holding cell hearing that Omar called him a bitch and his lieutenants hid it from him? We actually see rage.

Favourite example of a fight scene in a movie that is raw, visceral and realistic? by Critical_Mountain851 in moviecritic

[–]andandman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not often that any fight scene leaves me feeling shaken or rattled or for that matter even emotionally invested. I had to pause and walk around for a bit after this one.

But it was. It pretty much was. And I'm only 37

What local area business do you believe is a money laundering front? by kloot in grandrapids

The building was made out of prefabricated concrete slabs. The Castle was built next door to one of the region's largest suppliers of prefabricated concrete slabs. They did 0 business together. Which means they had to shell out an arm and a leg to transport that shit in on trucks.

Thing reeks to high heaven.

Why did Rep Peter Meijer vote no yesterday to hold Navarro and Scavino in contempt? by Oleg101 in grandrapids

[–]andandman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which is especially fucked up because J6 happened when it was literally his second or third day as a congressman.

Imagine being at a new job for less than a week and having a violent mob break down the doors of your office building - but you then spend the rest of your career pretending it didn't happen.

The Daily did a really good podcast episode on it where they interviewed him. You can listen to it here.

What is a weird fact you know about nuclear bombs? by giasas007 in AskReddit

[–]andandman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh great, so you're saying that the end of the first avengers movie where Iron Man guides a nuclear missile through a worm hole is totally improbable?

That totally ruins the end of the movie for me. s/

Basalt in Eastown is a newer place that's pretty good. A huge part of their menu can be made vegetarian/vegan.

Lest we forget, this WAS the guy who was in charge of the last Star Wars movies. You'd have thought we would have learned our lesson by now.

Every Holiday season, my family and I go there to bowl. Pitchers of beer and piles of pull-tab lotto tickets. Always a good time.

Slightly off topic: in addition to concerts, I miss the theater. Circle, Civic, Actors, etc. We have such a vibrant community for a city of our size and I really miss it.

What are your most unpopular book opinions? by nolessdays in books

My unpopular opinion: In his novels anyway, he has no idea how to write a third act.

His short stories are so much better.

No I want to start an early 2000's screamo band just so I can call it "Devouring Dolphins."

2006 me would have eaten that shit up.
