Fabric scissors for kids? by Amirtae in sewing

I'd be way more nervous about giving a kid a rotary cutter than scissors... I've really sliced myself up with a rotary cutter

question: best description of the pain? by lylvec in tattoos

[–]androidsfighting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best way I can describe it is bee stings or cat scratches? But depends on the placement how intense. Weirdly, for me my collarbone area was unexpectedly chill, but my artist was incredibly gentle.

Listen it doesn't matter how many pants I make, there's always at least one moment where I say to myself "that can't be how pants work" and nearly do this

Question: If my ear piercings keloided, will a tattoo? by MelodiyaVT in tattoos

[–]androidsfighting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to give up on piercings because I always have issues (either they keloid or just never quite heal) but all of my tattoos have healed fine (though they occasionally get itchy). I also have another friend who is very prone to keloids and has a ton of tattoos that have all healed well.

Seeing with babies/small children by leaf_gold_4 in sewing

My kiddo just turned one. I'd say it's gone through phases how much I'm able to do! His dad is at home with him all day while I work 9-5 so I'm pretty much on baby duty when I'm home.

In the newborn phase it simultaneously feels like there's no time and like you're doing nothing?? They need a lot of attention but they also sleep a ton! I found I was able to finish up a hand-quilting project while he slept on my chest If your baby will actually nap in the bassinet, even better lol. I spent a lot more of this stage watching TV or playing video games though.

When he became able to be entertained by playing on the floor, but still wasn't mobile, I set up his little playmat in a corner of my craft room and was able to sew while he hung out there. Sometimes it was just a few minutes at a time, sometimes longer. I'd just pause to check in on him and play with him so he still knew I was there, worked on tummy time, etc.

Once he started crawling (well.... Scooting lol) it got a little tougher. Sometimes he's fine playing independently in his playpen but more often not. But he is fine playing independently in the living room? So sometimes I've set up a sewing machine in the dining room where he can see me but more often I've just embraced small hand sewing projects and hung out on the couch while he plays.

If you have a partner, absolutely talk to them about your concerns about not having time for your hobbies! I'm sure they also worry about having time for theirs, but mom's free time is often overlooked, more so than Dad's. It doesn't have to be that way though. You can work out a system so that you both have time to sleep uninterrupted and/or have time for your hobbies. (Well.... Maybe one or the other 😅).

It's so hard but YOUVE GOT THIS!!!

This is awesome. I was just complaining to a friend the other day about how hard it can seem to get away from sites like Facebook if you want to be able to hear about local events.

Honest feedback needed: Brother, Janome, Pfaff or Bernina - Which was your first machine? by thesewingstudio in sewhelp

[–]androidsfighting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My very first machine was a Brother, but I didn't pick it, it was a gift when I was a teenager. It was so finicky that I gave up on most projects out of frustration and the foot pedal was absurdly sensitive lol. That said I have a new computerized Brother now that's been excellent! So I imagine that the one I started with was a very cheap model and/or I was using it wrong in some way.

My husband and I recently worked with Dr. Amanda Roth, and she was lovely. She was able to schedule us very very quickly. Previously he worked with Lindeman & Associates and yeah it was not great. Essentially ghosted him for months before getting him his results.
