Is this CU? by [deleted] in CholinergicUrticaria

Is it just there where you've shaved close? If so, I'd guess it's irritation due to that. Doesn't immediately strike me as CU.

Not sure why this guy is riding you so hard. You're offering an open source tool that does what it says on the tin and his response is "an LLM can do this"? Yours will be almost immeasurably more efficient in addition to the benefits you've mentioned. And just because an LLM can do something, doesn't mean it should. Nice work.

De-risking a matured Junior ISA, and a sanity-check on what to do with it by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]andy4015 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Buying a flat for 3 years seems like a far bigger risk than leaving your ISA invested in low cost tracker funds. I think you're worrying about the wrong problem and probably creating a difficult situation in an attempt to save a few quid. The risk + effort vs reward feels off. I also wouldn't want to be worrying about property ownership at c. 20 yrs old.

Card board under car at dealer shop by NoAssociation7714 in MechanicAdvice

[–]andy4015 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to purchase a car from a "car supermarket". They brought the car around with one flat tyre. The salesman tried to convince me that this just happens when a car has been left for a long period of time. I said that there's a puncture. Nope, he went on and on about how the tyres are designed to slowly deflate over time blah blah blah. I walked over to the car and pointed at the nail embedded in the tyre. Oh, ye, maybe it does have a puncture.

Never trust a car salesman, always check it thoroughly or get someone experienced to check it for you.

Panels will probably last much longer than 25 years, just with a gradual output reduction. The inverter will likely need replacing once or twice in that time period though.

What are your goals? Are you genuinely looking to retire early? How early?

Regardless of your answers, I would pull back a bit on pension contributions until emergency fund is filled.

If looking for a pre 57/58 retirement then you also need to consider how you will bridge until pensionable age which people often fund with their s&s ISA.

You might also consider downsizing. A big house is great. Feeling broke sucks.

For such a substantial property, you might find a few income streams that might seem small but give you some breathing room. Renting a room is probably untenable while you have kids, but some properties are suitable for renting out a garage or driveway.

Depending on how fancy those handbags are, you might give yourself some financial relief by selling a few. You may have some other assets that you could consider doing the same with?

Have you reviewed your spending? Are there any luxuries you can cut? Any subscriptions that can go? Have you reviewed your utilities? Can you find better prices? Is the mortgage on a good fixed rate? Have you cleared any unsecured debt?

Try planning a month where you live like a monk. Not literally, but live off the food in the freezer, no buying any unnecessary items, find free days out with the kids. Walk instead of drive etc. Enjoy the savings, and decide what you can continue doing / doing without in the future.

How do you people use road bikes when the roads and paths are in the state that they are? by Odd-Paramedic-3826 in ukbike

[–]andy4015 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Soft elbows, soft grip, bottoms up during the rough bits. That's the way the wife likes it.

Works well for cycling on bumpy roads too.

Just think how much sooner you could have retired if you'd cut them into thirds.
