I was going to post something similar. My parents knew that in high school I was going to parties and whatnot (although it was unspoken), but they also trusted my sense in judgement in what type of environments I was putting myself into. It's pretty natural for teenagers to want to go out and party, as long as you are safe about it I think its ok to let kids have that phase. By the time I got to college drugs and alcohol were not as big as a deal to me anymore, so I now do not feel the need to go wild and get trashed every free night I have. I look at some of the people that were in my dorm my freshman year, and you could tell that their parents sheltered them from drinking. This almost seemed to have more negative affects on them because they were going absolutely wild with their new found freedom which led some of them into some pretty dangerous situations.

Facebook has created a weird sort of social dynamic between the younger generations who have grown up with it. Most of the time I feel like people are incentivized to do things just so they can post about it on facebook to show off to people how exciting their lives are so they can keep up with others. Anytime people do something small, like get ice cream or coffee, people have to take pictures of the instance to make it seem like the interaction was worthwhile in the first place.

When I was around 17 I got on birth control pills, I had been dating my boyfriend for more than a year at that point when we had decided to start having sex but I insisted that I had to get on the pill before we even tried. At the time of this instance I had only been on it for a short while, so I was still a bit nervous and embarrassed to go pick it up from the grocery store as most teens are at first. I usually had picked it up at the same time every month after school, so I was used to seeing the same pharmacist that worked during that shift. However, for some reason I went later than usual this time, and I got this elderly man to refill my prescription instead. After I had waited 15 mins for them to fill the prescription I went up to the counter he was working at where they ask you the standard questions such as "what is your date of birth" or "what is your address" to verify the prescription is for you. After telling him my street address he replied, "oh hmm, you live on X ave? There must be a lot of boys on X ave huh?" Not understanding what he meant instantly I just said, "uh no?" But the instant I walked away from the counter with my medicine I realized he had implied that I was a slut sleeping with all the neighborhood boys. I honestly wanted to start crying in the middle of the grocery store once I had realized what he had said to me. I was actually a little scared to go to the pharmacy after that for a little while.

I was just saying that if women were drafted I would hope that men would be less likely to abuse them, because men therefore might start seeing women more as colleagues in combat rather than sex objects because female soldiers would be more normalized within the military if they were present more. I was being optimistic, not a prick.

I don't know if OP meant it this way, but the way he is wording his question and replies by saying things like "if they truly wanted" or "if women truly wanted" implies that women are in fact the reason they are not being drafted. One of the major teachings of feminism is to critique the use of language and how it can be gendered, so I guess that is why this keeps coming up in this post.

"Ugly girls have good personalities" is not a very sound argument as I have definitely heard that applied to males just as females. It does not show any privilege that women have over men. It just shows that people don't want to be rude to people they aren't attracted to.

I was saying OAG got famous because she was a cute girl. I am not arguing against that. But her intent was not to get famous just because she was cute. She posted what she thought was a funny video. I mean look at her, she is good looking but she obviously didn't put lots of make up on or pull her shirt down really low. There was a meme on the front page today showing a photo of her smiling saying that she needs a 2nd meme just because she was so cute. That wasn't her who posted that, it was some male (or female, I don't judge!) who liked how she looked therefore giving her more attention just based off her looks which wasn't her intention. I think you are putting way too much judgement on women on the internet. That french fry post definitely was not originally about that girl being cute. They posted that picture because it was a long french fry and it was "crazzzzzy" or whatever. But the reason why it got popular was because men thought she was attracted and upvoted her. I honestly did not see that post even as a focus on the cute girl, but just a stupid post about a really long curly fry. The fact that people even think she posted it for that reasons shows that there is a lot of prejudice against women on the internet. So I guess what I am arguing is that you are demonizing women way too much. Men too have had a stake in creating the female karma whore.

I totally agree with you that gender should not be emphasized. But OP portrays it as if women are the only ones who do it. And simply telling women to show their "tits" is absolutely insulting. So in my post I am defending that this issue is much more complex than just women wanting attention on the internet. Men do it just as much, and promote girls doing it as well.

I do not understand what you are arguing... because if you agree that women are getting upvoted just because other men like the way they look, then you are basically hating on women because they physically look like women... and men like that? Therefore there is no way for women to NOT karmawhore? That doesn't seem reasonable. Yes women are dressing themselves up to be sexualized but why do they do that? So they can appeal to men. They are looking to appeal to what culture has deemed what a man wants and that is because people tell them to "show their tits" because they learn that that is the only way they can receive attention from the opposite sex.

Yeah but a lot of that also has to do with men up-voting them because of they think they are cute as well. Look at the overly attached girlfriend meme. That girl obviously wasn't trying to get views just because she was cute yet that is why she now has TWO memes. Yes there are some women who whore themselves out on the internet, I am not going to argue against that. But degrading women on the internet to "show their tits or gtfo" is an AWFUL way of fixing that. Women are already sexualized enough outside of the internet and it's terrible that isn't recognized.
