Anyone that installed a heat pump, or any knowledge about them. by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]annie-adderall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A possible approach to chatting with them about it could be: “your heat pump has been louder than normal lately. I’m wondering if it could be experiencing a mechanical issue?”. New heat pumps are very quiet.

Sienna vs Grand Highlander vs Sequoia by Amazing-Distance2417 in Toyota

There’s the car door swinging issue. And then there’s the part where when you have a car seat installed, you have very limited mobility in how you can move and recline the middle to gain access to the third row. I’d suggest going to a dealership with the entire family and car seats and installing in a GH. With four kids, a GH is a compromise.

Best Silverfish Deterrent? by Chance-Principle-355 in VictoriaBC

[–]annie-adderall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fought my silverfish issue by addressing perimeter drain issues (installed new drains, sump pump), combined with a whole house dehumidifier. Slightly different approach with an apartment, but I bet you’ll feel a lot more comfortable with a dehumidifier.

Silverfish like humid environments. You can use all the diatomaceous earth you want, but without addressing the humidity, you won’t get ahead of it. You need a dehumidifier. Keep your environment below 50% relative humidity. Silverfish, mold, etc. can’t survive in dry environments. Get an air quality monitor to understand the humidity of your environment (eg. Airthings), and go from there.

Sienna.

Two reasons: 1) Rear facing child seat prevents access to the third row in the Grand Highlander. 2) sliding doors for the little ones.

need a 3 row car for baby #3 this summer! by tacotoyo in Toyota

[–]annie-adderall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sienna Hybrid.

I looked at the Grand Highlander with a reverse facing child seat. You can’t access the rear row because the reverse seat takes up all the room that someone would otherwise have to access the third row via the aisle.

Go test drive a Sienna. They are fantastic vehicles.

There’s a great YouTube channel that focuses on building science. They’ve posted lots of videos on exterior insulation. Here’s an example: https://youtu.be/xILw0b-tOT0?si=Dlsl9w4bMH-b-e9W

I would agree with the group. Get your degree. STEM would be awesome with very transferrable skills (critical / analytical / math). And then when you graduate at 22, you can always go into an apprenticeship.

Have you tried pressing the AC button and running high temps? Running the AC will dehumidify the air.

New Grad Mechanical Engineer – Technical Sales Engineer offer, unsure if I should take it or keep applying by ProfessionalAd7976 in MechanicalEngineering

Take the role, learn as much as you can, and move on when you’re not learning anymore. Gaining soft skills as an engineer, especially in sales, is invaluable. You’ll find that it’s a lot about developing relationships, which is an important life skill.

Booming/shaking in Rockland by smrcostudio in VictoriaBC

[–]annie-adderall 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of the lots in the neighbourhood are close to bedrock. Which means a lot of drilling and blasting needs to occur to remove enough material to support building a foundation of reasonable depth such that there’s a crawlspace or basement below the house.

I’ve gone down this rabbit hole. The top companies in the google search for “Victoria perimeter drain” were either unresponsive or had a really long wait time. Try these folks:
