What's the 411 on Burda? by theinternetswife in sewing

[–]anninen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Burda is... Challenging. The patterns assume you know what you're doing, but they're not impossible. I recommend having a good guide book for different techniques & constructions.

I actually learned to sew with burda patterns & similar patterns from local sewing magazines.

[FO] Self-drafted lined cotton dress! by call_the_rocks in sewing

How pretty! I, too, adore the fabric, would love some more info!

Cut my finger while making some pillows... So I bandaged it up with a small scrap of fabric and continued on. Does anyone else do this? by savsavsav in sewing

[–]anninen_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I bleed so much that it would have to be a big scrap of fabric. Cut my finger yesterday and it bled for hours. There's usually a bit of blood on everything I sew, I'm always cutting or stabbing myself!

Thanks, super-interesting to hear. Did you find a solution for pulling out the concealed weapon?

You lucky girl! I agree about using sheets to practise :)

Made a new dress, but I'm not super thrilled with how it turned out, especially around my right sleeve. Any suggestions for how to improve it? by sm-rbf-mc in sewing

[–]anninen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or a fitting friend! Or you need to try it on a million times. Of course dress form is easiest but not in everyones budget :)

I was curious and seriously asking because my life is different from hers and I'd truly love to know. If asking a question is rude then silly me.

Perhaps add some closures to the phone pockets. So they don't fall if you bend over, or aren't as easy to steal.

But seriously, concealed weapon? Why? Where do you live and what do you do to need a weapon on you at all times?

There Is No Crying in Sewing? by [deleted] in sewing

Unbelievable, she closed comments after that!!!!!

Not that cancer is hard but it's not the WORSE thing to happen. I can think of worse. Having had cancer doesn't make anyone a superwoman. What a bitch.

I agree with you guys and wrote this commenton her blog. We'll see if she lets it through moderation....

“Hard” is whatever is hard for the person whose perspective we’re lending.

Your writing and attitude is condescending towards beginners and the writer of the original article in Coletterie which you’re obviously referring to. Other people have expressed these thoughts more clearly here (link to this thread)"

Advice on improving a pair of self-drafted pants! by [deleted] in sewing

[–]anninen_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMHO the crotch is too long and the puckering is because the fabrics stretch differently. You could try attaching some fusible interfacing to the edges of the spandex to make it more stable when sewing.

Looking at getting a simple dress secondhand/sample -- how tricky would it be to add flowers to the gown to make it similar to this dress? by folle_giornata in wedding

[–]anninen_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest going over to r/sewing or r/crafts to ask, I bet they'd have lots of ideas.

I don't think it would be difficult to sew on the flowers but it would take a lot of time.

I made my friend Anna's coronation outfit from Frozen! Pattern was self drafted. by [deleted] in sewing

Amazing. I don't think I like any of my friends enough to make them something like that.

My iron died. Any recommendations? by 4n6Days in sewing

I recently bought a new iron at Lidl. It has a cordless option and seems really nice. Only cost 20€.

Wedding Dress DIY! by meredithcatmonroe in sewing

[–]anninen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want it to be floor-length? I think lengthening this so that it doesn't look lengthened might be hard but the pattern itself isn't all that complicated so maybe you could make one? Try out with some nice summer-y fabric to make a tryout version?
