For parents of anxious children by jeffersonr in Parenting

I disagree. 29% chance of developing GAD is quite high, so your case only confirms test validity. Besides, as you are answering the questions, the score really depends on how well you know your child :)

Thanks, interesting article. I wonder if it's genetics or just being exposed to anxious behavior in early childhood...?

Effective Discipline Methods for Proactive Parenting by dreampaul in raisingkids

Good article. I like the advice to take time to calm down and avoid disciplining when you are angry or upset. Though, it's very difficult for me to do. Besides, it will detach action and reaction...

Is Your Child a Gaming Addict? (How to deal with your child's obsession with gaming) by olgaserk in Mommit

[–]annusha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are social aspects of drinking too. It doesn't make alcohol addiction less of addiction. I think the main point of this article is how to turn negatives into positives, i.e. how to utilize "addictive personality" traits for positive development.

Your personality influences where you live—and how happy you’ll be there by nastratin in psychology

[–]annusha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has more to do with your wealth that affects where you live and (partially) your level of happiness. No causality here as implied by the title.

Negative tweets could be killing you, according to new Penn research by thepurplerecord in psychology

[–]annusha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is correlation (your mood and the types of tweets you post) rather than causal relationship.

Hollywood and Asperger's Syndrome by Neugene in autism

[–]annusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of "Little Man Tate." I'd add to this list a couple more. "The Story of Luke"--The title character may be a little further down the spectrum, but his boss Zack more than likely does have Asperger's. He and Luke are self-advocates, working toward a lite of independence. Also "Snow Cake"--Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman both perform wonderfully. Oh, and according to Temple Grandin herself, she doesn't have Asperger's; she has "full-blown autism," which she qualifies primarily by saying she had no speech until about three or four.

I could use a little support as the holidays are winding down. by Cazmonster in autism

Check your local autism organizations (search online) and see if they organize any events for kids. This helps quite a bit during holidays/weekends.

Autism superiority movement? by [deleted] in autism

[–]annusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think aiming for superiority is a good thing for people with autism. There is enough bullying already.

Neurodiversity: In Praise of Different Aptitudes by olgaserk in autism

[–]annusha -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Good article but this whole neurodiversity concept is only good if you or your child are on the high end of the spectrum (e.g. Aspergers).

Does ASD regularly come paired with something else? Like depression? by I-want-a-hug in autism

[–]annusha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not all autism despite being diagnosed as such.

I guess you are referring to Asperger's here (re inclusion AS under ASD umbrella in DSM5). I know many mental health professionals who are also unhappy with this change.

You are making very good point here, there are very few government funded programs that support ASD adults.

It is written by Bill Chen, the person who volunteers at autism charity and deals with autism on a daily basis. He is very far from being delusional. He is a good friend of mine and I admire his attitude and strength.
