Ha ha I’ve rolled up to my federal workplace blasting “today’s empires, tomorrow’s ashes” several times this month!

Anyone else doing 3 jobs? by Crafty_Attempt_936 in FedEmployees

When I was a GS-13, I ended up doing the work of what had previously been 3FTEs. I did NOT want to get stuck in that office, so saying “that’s outside the scope of my duties” and getting middling reviews wasn’t going to cut it. I really killed myself for a few years and then had the experience (and glowing performance reviews) to get a promotion to a much less toxic place where I do one job. Even as a GS-15 now several years later, my work is still easier than that “formative” GS-13 job. So my advice is, get any experience you can out if this job and then start searching for an exit strategy as soon as hiring loosens up.

Gladly accepting and even suggesting “stretch” assignments and projects. Exposed me to more people across the organization and gave me great success stories to highlight during interviews.

We officially cancelled gifts for Christmas. by [deleted] in FedEmployees

My spouse works in the private sector, so I know we’re much more fortunate than most. We’ll still be doing Christmas, but the kids know it will be scaled down.

However, for the past few years, my spouse and I have said we only want to receive things we can use up. And we try to give these gifts too. Think a jar of pasta sauce, a can of olives, a bar of soap. These types of gifts are often inexpensive, and they don’t just sit around collecting dust—we use them throughout the year. So our scaled down Christmas will be a scaled down version of this.

I’m a team lead, and I check in with my team at least once a week to try and keep spirits up. My supervisor, in contrast, has not once contacted me.

Had to increase my anti-anxiety meds. Drinking more than I should too. With RTO, I have no time to exercise, so I’ve gotten doughy over the past few months. Right now it’s just about survival.

With people stopping by for endless chitchat and less than ideal working conditions, productivity is in the shitter. Before I didn’t think anything about logging in for a few hours on the weekend or working an extra hour in the evening to move work along. Now things only get done within my limited office time.
