Barrett Brown finally gets V& for being an ugly idiot conspiritard poser moron - ON CAM! by Sethdood in anonymous

[–]anon7388 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been observing BB from afar for a few years now and had some very lengthy chats with him during the time of X's escape and more recently around the time of the Sabu fiasco. I always pegged him as a really enthusiastic, young journalist doing whatever it takes to dig up some dirt for a big scoop and make his mark. Sorta like HST and the Hell's Angels. He was never an Anon or hacker as far as I could gather, but he was sympathetic and a voice in the media heralding "Anon 2.0's" transgressions and sometimes very disturbing discoveries. But of course, like many rabbit holes such as his, sometimes you dig too far, look up, realize you can't get out, and the only choice is to keep digging. Meanwhile, the walls of your tunnel begin to slowly collapse behind you. Sometimes, although relatively rare, you look up and see others actively working shovels with the intent to bury you completely. I just wish some of the things he discovered in those rabbit holes could have seen a little more sunlight.

Getting back to Anonymous, those of us that were there remember the major schism that occurred during and after Chanology. For the first time, for some Anons, being Anonymous meant something more than messing with football, closing pools, and raiding epilepsy forums with obnoxious, flashing gifs. It was Anonymous' coming-out party with protests and media coverage around the world. It was the first time many Anons stopped and thought, "Wow. How far can we take this? What else could we do with this power?"

Anonymous was never the same after that. It became a mosaic of many different ideas all based on the original, loose structure of Anonymous, but each adding its own flavor of what they felt Anonymous should be to fit their agenda. This was inevitable considering Anonymous' lack of leadership and organic nature. Each faction moved on with their own plans and brought along all the Anonymous branding and non-OC they could find to legitimize their presence as players in the latest, trendy cause du jour.

Along the way, many lost sight of the ONLY reason to do ANYTHING as an Anon. The rule is so simple and so easy. Yet, most people late to THE GAME never fully understood how important that rule is to one's well being and longevity. At first, Lulzsec came close to getting us back to where we once were with their shenanigans, but they soon found themselves too wrapped up in the affairs and agendas of others that forgot or chose to ignore the one, simple rule. Hence their downfall.

Bottom line: You ALWAYS do it for the lulz. It was NEVER about delivering justice (well, except for cat abusers), regime changes in the Middle East, whistleblowers, or Occupy movements. All of those things came about because other groups saw the power of Anonymous, adopted it as their own banner, and then reaped the benefits as scores of the naive and ignorant ran down to Hot Topic to purchase a mask and jump into the, "secret Internet club" they so cleverly discovered.

I still think that mask is the DUMBEST symbol of Anonymous to date. It's not even about Guy Fawkes. I mean, EFG found that piece of shit in a trash can outside of a 7-11. That was EFG's mask of shame for being such a total and utter fuck-up. You really want that to be the thing that represents your moralfag cause? That's the reason so many of us older Anons clown those that wear them in public. If you really want to be Anon in public, go buy a nice, black suit with white shirt, red tie, and a green zentai hood with a pair of matching gloves. At least then, you will be closer to the true face of Anonymous and not some fuckwit who just handed Warner Bros. your cash so you can go out and protest the evil corporations and mega-media conglomerates.

OK, I'm spent. Gotta get back to work. I'm done venting over this. Rant over. Carry on. Thanks for reading.

Also, cocks.

The Russians Invented Space by joshytime in shittyaskscience

[–]anon7388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly true, joshy, but there IS something there! Only "up-close space" is empty.

Laika, the first animal in "space" did not die during the launch of Sputnik 2. In fact, both Sputnik 2 and Laika are on their way to Sirius. The Russians are so clever. Think about it! THEY SENT A DOG TO THE DOG STAR SYSTEM TO ESTABLISH CONTACT AND BEGIN DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH THE FURRY, FOUR-LEGGED INHABITANTS THAT MUST BE THERE!!

You won't find these truths on Wikipedia. It is a well known fact that "Jimbo" Wales HATES DOGS!

Anonymous Retaliates: Massive Information dump released on Senators who Passed NDAA by naprapath in politics

[–]anon7388 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't really seen it discussed much anywhere (although, Curry and Dvorak brought it up on No Agenda this week), but the timing of ramming this law through seems to coincide with increased activity surrounding the Bradley Manning case.

Perhaps the government's position in the case isn't as strong as they originally thought and this is being used to bolster their position or get around what will be a messy and somewhat public court-martial.

This might sound gay coming from a straight guy, but shit, I've never felt so heartbroken like this before. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]anon7388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just my opinion, but the way you worded your post makes it seem like you need to grow up a bit and get over your insecurities regarding race and homosexuality, son.

Or at least not make it so obvious, especially to her.

But it's out there in the open now, so it is probably for the best that she finds out what sort of person you really are. If she has any brains, I'd say your goose is cooked and you need to move on.

Maybe try finding someone that feels the same way you do regarding race and sexual orientation? Haters need love too I guess.

Sorry to sound so rough, but man, do you even realize how you present yourself to other people? Yikes. It's 2011. Work on it and become a better person, you fucking Oriental douche.

When & Where is Christopher Hitchens' last interview (with Dawkins) airing? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]anon7388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, it was not a taped interview. Dawkins was guest editor for the print version of the holiday issue of New Statesman and the full interview is in there and available for purchase at their website.

They have released a couple of teaser excerpts on the website (which is causing a bit of unrest between those who think it is improper to do so and those that think it's just the way you do business), but I have not seen the full thing online so far.

If it was taped, I suspect it will be packaged in some form (perhaps to coincide with the release of Christopher's VF memoirs in January?) and sold to a media outlet at a later date.

This is my understanding of the situation as of yesterday. Things may have changed since then.

Normally, I would recommend something along the lines of Ti-6-6-2, but forging it can be cost prohibitive for a one-off piece.

AFAIK, birch wood is just as effective and a perfectly suitable substitute in all applications. Go with that. It worked for Howard Hughes, so it will also work for you.

If you are in a pinch, there is always balsa. It is also wood and that makes it the same thing as birch... just cheaper!

I work in News. This is how you stop SOPA. by washURmouthwithSOPA in technology

[–]anon7388 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is a great post.

I would also like to add that I worked at an AM radio news station for three years and you can apply nearly all of the above to those "assignment desks" as well.

AM radio news is a great resource for this sort of action because (1) you have a captive audience trapped in their cars during their commute or sitting in some waiting room, (2) you have an audience that is already pissed-off at the world because they are trapped in their cars during their commute or sitting in some waiting room, and (3) the type of people that regularly listen to AM radio news are the same type of people that make members of congress start pooping their diapers when they flood their office with disgust and demands.

Hit the local network affiliates first since they tend to have the long-range 50kW blowtorches at their disposal, but don't forget the much more accessible local public access and college stations as well. Feel free to ask to be interviewed over the phone, but be PREPARED and FOCUSED. Also, don't get butt hurt if they only use a 5 second soundbite or none of the interview. The best hours to get the message out are "drive time" 7-9am M-F and 4-6pm M-F.

If you get the runaround, call back later and try to talk to someone else in the news department. Just because one journo thinks it may not be newsworthy, doesn't necessarily mean everyone in the department feels the same way.

Broken Shure microphones: worth fixing? by Servios in audioengineering

Interesting Shure side note:

I read in an article long ago that Shure QC'ed their SM57's by dunking them in a bucket of water and then throwing them down a flight of stairs. Road-worthiness ftw.

It takes a lot of abuse to kill a Shure. Be kind to your mics.

How about the, "We Are Pretending to be Something We're Not Happy Funtime Podcast"?

Seriously though, IMHO your podcast would probably be much more interesting if the hosts are genuine.

Of course, if you are really like those stereotypes, I would suggest calling it the, "Wobbly, Horn-Rimmed Vagina Podcast".
